Currently there is one (1) part-time vacancy in the Library Services Department. The eligibility list created from this recruitment may be used to fill future Library Aide vacancies as they occur.
The first part of the selection process is a complete evaluation of the application package. Those candidates deemed most qualified as reflected on their application will be invited to an oral panel interview tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, October 2, 2018.
Part-time employees typically work up to 19 hours a week, cannot work more than 28 hours a week, serve at will, and are exempt from the Civil Service System.
The City of Azusa's library hours are: Monday - Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Friday - Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Under supervision, responsible for clerical activities associated with the circulation of materials.
Essential Functions: Performs routine duties in the circulation section of the library. Issues borrower cards, collects fines and appropriate fees, processes materials for circulation; assists library patrons by providing routine directional assistance; operates a variety of equipment such as copy machines, computers and calculators; sorts, shelves and mends library materials. Performs other related duties as assigned. This position may include driving the library Bookmobile to various locations within the City of Azusa.
Qualification Guidelines: Education and Experience
Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance. Example combinations include graduation from high school or equivalent. At least one year of customer experience is highly desirable. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Display a friendly and helpful attitude. Be dependable and punctual. Possess the ability to learn library procedures and practices including the location of materials in the library, and demonstrate a commitment to safety; understand and follow verbal and written directions; read and straighten out assigned book shelves.
Possession of or ability to obtain a Class C California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
The incumbent must have the ability to work occasional weekends, evenings and/or holidays and be flexible in working hours.
Physical, Mental, Environmental Conditions:
Position requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movements above and below shoulder level in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and acute hearing is required when providing face-to-face service. The need to lift and carry supplies and other materials weighing up to 20 pounds is also required.
Additionally, the incumbent in this position works indoors and sometimes outdoors when driving the bookmobile. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.
