The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner evaluates,assesses, and determines theneeds of each patient. The positionalso provides psychiatric treatment of existing psychiatric problems and recommendingtreatment periodic physical exams. Duties alsoinclude identifying and evaluating mentalhealth issues,development of medication regimens and treatmentplans for patients with mental illness.

Responsibilities:
Assesses clients; synthesizes and analyzes data
Understands and applies principles of healthcare at an advanced level
Manages the physical and psychosocial health status of clients
Analyzes multiple sources of data; identifies alternative possibilities as to the nature of a health care problem and selects, implements, and evaluates appropriate treatment
Makes independent decisions when solving complex client care problems
Diagnoses, performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, prescribes, administers, and dispenses therapeutic measures, including legend drugs, medical devices, and controlled substances, within the scope of Registered Nurse Practitioner practice on meeting requirements established by the board
Recognizes the limits of the nurse’s knowledge and experiences; plans for situations beyond the nurse’s knowledge and expertise and consults with or referring clients to other health care providers when appropriate
Performs additional acts that require education and training as prescribed by the board and that are recognized by the nursing profession as proper to be performed by a nurse practitioner
Assists medical providers as needed
Assesses chronic, acute and emergency health care needs of patients with respective documentation and provide therapeutic interventions as ordered by the provider
Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Minimum Requirements:
Familiarity with OSHA regulations related to universal precautions and hazardous material
Progressive experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Certification (within respective state) as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Prescribing and dispensing authority is required (if applicable)
Must possess an understanding of safety and security measures of a correctional environment
Strong written and verbal skills
Knowledge of communicable disease principles and understanding of Center for Disease Control (CDC)
Ability to work with and cooperatively with multiple disciplines
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required
Computer proficiency required
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
