SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Vice President of Information Management, this role will establish and operationalize our enterprise data and analytical IT capabilities to achieve a fully integrated digital information eco-system. The Director will set the technical direction of platforms, drive innovation, provide operational leadership, manage the solution engineering, lead change management, and be responsible for the central operations of enterprise analytical products / platforms such as an enterprise data lake(s), data warehousing, enterprise analytics / business intelligence, and core Research Data Science platforms and services. The Director will manage a multi-disciplinary team of technical and non-technical resources in support of line functions. Key responsibilities include:

Partner with senior functional leaders across CMC, Research, Clinical, Commercial, etc. to translate and identify immediate, short-term and long-term information needs and requirements
Own enterprise integrated data roadmap to model future state capabilities (what, how, who and when)
Define common analytic platform(s) and ways of working (governance, best practices, standards) to support all enterprise analytic needs, and treat our enterprise data as a company asset
Hands on lead the strategy, plan, build, and daily run of technical solutions and centralized operational services in support of all line functions
Staff, develop, and mentor a high performance team and outsourced resources

The Director must be at ease working strategically across Research, Laboratory Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Clinical functions while being hands on in shaping and standing up centralized capabilities (technology, people resource, operational process including non-traditional IT services) in support of complex line functions, who make meaning of our data.

To be successful in this role, the incumbent will need to think strategically, harness innovation, foster creativity, run complex operations and deliver solutions. This position will be highly visible, and is expected to contribute significantly to key needs and objectives within line functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Partner with senior functional leaders across CMC, Research, Clinical, Commercial, etc. to translate and identify immediate, short-term and long-term information needs and requirements
Translate big picture integrated data vision and functional line objectives to technical solutions and centralized operational services
Set platform strategies and evolution of enterprise data and analytical capabilities including shared services (i.e. central governance, data stewardship, operational leadership-resourcing-prioritization)
Establish sustainable practices and processes to ensure rapid access to critical functional and cross-functional data assets and equally rapid dissemination of findings, while managing potential risks and the misinterpretation and misuse of information
Deliver innovative solutions (machine learning, artificial intelligence, deep sequencing, advanced visualization, real-world complex data strategies, bioinformatics) that align with business needs (today and tomorrow) and create organizational value for the Company
Become an internal expert with our information and data
Rapidly solve for immediate needs, while establishing longer term sustainable solutions and process
Own enterprise integrated data roadmap to model future state capabilities (what, how, who and when)
Champion strategic use of enterprise data and analytics to drive value, and build external relationships to bring innovative solutions to internal process and operations
Establish-evolve services and platforms as appropriate to accelerate adoption and value realization of emerging technologies including but not limited data science, natural language processing, content analytics, augmented reality, machine learning / artificial intelligence
Own the development of effective communication and training vehicles for other IT and business teams on platform services and roadmaps, and elevate line function skills-sets in adeptly executing advanced analytics using central ways of working and tools
Plan for data driven external facing solutions (e.g. mobile) that drive commercial model and patient care
Define common analytic platforms, central-shared ways of working (governance, best practices, standards) and Operations Center to support enterprise analytic needs, and treat our enterprise data as a company asset
Establish-evolve services and platforms to accelerate adoption and value realization of emerging technologies with line stakeholders, and incorporate in the capability and technology roadmaps
Act as a thought leader on emerging digital business models, scientific research and technologies
Understand change events, and align down-stream impacts to line function and IT ways of working
Own end-to-end process (sourcing, standards, integration plan, etc.) for enterprise data management
Run central Operations Center of shared resources to provide operational leadership, project-portfolio management and enterprise data governance in support of integrated-scientific data analytics and informatics
Manage resources in support of Research scientific computing projects, cross-functional matrix ways of working and the strategic advancement of our computational research and bioinformatics activities
Drive enterprise data governance, operational governance, project prioritization, risk management, resource allocation, team-work and unity, communication-transparency, and tool standardization
Pragmatically and thoughtfully execute as senior change agent in a matrix environment to drive strategic line and cross-functional outcomes
Ensure appropriate oversight of vendors and external resources while building strategic relationships
Hands on lead the strategy, plan, build, and daily run of technical IT solutions and centralized operational services in support of all line functions
Establish and lead using good portfolio-program and project management techniques repeatable prioritization, planning and build out methodology to put into place central IT capabilities and process
Rollout sustainable Operational Center services in support line function needs
Own and execute hard and soft change management plans to effectively integrate enterprise capabilities into line function activities, and thoughtfully grow Company capabilities
Build strategic relationships with external vendors to build and run solutions
Staff, develop, and mentor a high performance team and outsourced resources
REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or equivalent experience, MBA or advanced degree desired
10 years working experience within IT in similar roles, of which 8 years experience has been in the life sciences industry, leading global teams, leading leaders, managing complex IT programs, and driving cross-functional large-scale and complex technology introduction and innovation
At least 5 years supporting Clinical, Commercial, Research or Manufacturing functions from an information-data orientation
In-depth experience running enterprise technical solutions and non-technical operational services
Ability to manage global internal and external technical and non-technical resources
Demonstrated data and/or information thinking process and ways of working that can create value by exploiting and unlocking data insights on behalf of business teams
Knowledgeable of good architecture practices for data, analytics, bioinformatics, reporting and systems integration
Hands-on experience implementing modern integrated data analytic (business intelligence, data lake) solutions and underlying IT architectures and services
Able to be hands on to manipulate data using common IT tools
Demonstrated ability for strategic IT planning, innovation and roadmap development
Proven track record of appropriate risk taking and an aptitude for introducing positive disruption in business processes, technologies, and operational approaches (centralized and/or line function)
Experience managing in a highly regulated environment; knowledge of global GxP IT computer system validation and regulatory requirements
Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and lead across a matrix organization
Familiarity/experience preferred with the following technologies, solutions and data types: BioInformatics tools and high performance data processing solutions, data lake architecture, Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS) and other research core repositories, traditional data warehousing, clinical electronic data capture systems, general data integration and cleaning tools, Amazon cloud data platforms, etc.
IT Security / Information Security / Regulation as related to data and information
High energy, confident, gets things done, yet easy going personality at ease in front of internal customers
Ability to wear multiple hats, and sort-out complex IT and business challenges with ease
Prior Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology experience
Research RNA-sequencing and biomarker experience a plus
IT experience with aseptic processing manufacturing a plus
Expert with information management practices, system development life cycle management, IT services management, operations, IT Security, and holistic Enterprise Architecture
Knowledge of business ecosystems, SaaS, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), Service Oriented Architecture, APIs, open data, microservices, and custom development
Exposure and understanding of existing, new and emerging information technologies, and high scale data processing environments
Exceptional soft and interpersonal skills including teamwork, facilitation, organization, planning, communication (written and verbal), presentation, analytical, influencing and negotiation
Familiarity with graphical modelling approaches, tools and model repositories
Organizationally savvy, and understanding of the political climate of the enterprise and how to navigate obstacles and politics

Understanding of metamodels, taxonomies and ontologies, as well as of the challenges of applying structured techniques (data modelling) to less-structured sources.
Familiarity with Master Data, Business Intelligence, Data Lake, and data warehouse design and implementation techniques
Knowledge of problem analysis, structured analysis and design, and programming techniques
