This position works under minimal supervision, provides initial response to callers within the Resource and Referral Center. Conducts initial assessment of callers and schedules mental health appointments. Responds to and triages crisis calls. Registers, reviews and corrects patient registration information in the computer system. Verifies insurance coverage and eligibility on all hospital inpatient and outpatient accounts as well as Blue Cross HMOI members. Gathers necessary proof of insurance coverage, works closely with other departments regarding the certification process and exchanges and/or relays patient insurance information. Meets with all uninsured patients to discuss options and obtain payment when necessary.
Required Education, Skills and/or Experience:
- Basic computer knowledge
- Maintain information as highly confidential
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and willingness to seek supervision
Preferred Education, Skills and/or Experience:
- A Bachelor's Degree
- If Bachelor’s Degree is in a Behavioral Health related field, no previous experience
- If Bachelor’s Degree is in a non-Behavioral Health related field, a minimum of one year of behavioral health experience
- Minimum two years of education/training in a behavioral healthcare setting
- Crisis line or crisis intervention experience
- Substantial knowledge base of insurance plans such as Commercial, Managed Care and capitated plans, Medicare, Medicaid and Workers Compensation
Required License and/or Certification:
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within 90 days of hire
- Current CPR Certification issued by either American Heart Association or Red Cross within 90 days of hire
- A valid driver’s license is required if the incumbent is selected to perform related duties at an off site location. If the incumbent uses their personal vehicle, the incumbent must maintain automobile liability coverage as required by law and evidence of such coverage may be requested.
