Job Description Details
Under the direction of the Manager of Broadcast Lighting, the Lighting Assistant supports the efforts of the entire Lighting team to enhance the lighting of every studio and remote broadcast for QVC. This person will perform daily design and technical maintenance under the supervision and guidance of the Lighting Designer & Lighting Engineer, respectively. They also must r eact quickly to critical situations that occur in live broadcast situations, and support any other lighting activities that involve all live or content studios.
Independently set up, program and strike basic lighting setups.
Lighting activities involve all Live studio, and some Video Production responsibilities.
Works closely with the Associate Lighting Designers to identify and accommodate unplanned lighting needs.
Perform scheduled and unscheduled checks of set lighting to ensure that all fixtures, gel, and accessories are in good working condition and focused correctly.
Program the lighting consoles as necessary. Understand basic operations and functions of the lighting console.
Support the Lighting Designer or Engineer in project development through implementation, research, or paperwork.
Should have a basic working knowledge of lighting systems, fixtures, video, and design.
Perform inventory checks and audit of larger assets.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Degree in television / theatre / lighting and/or film, or equivalent combination of training and experience required.
One to Three years of recent active lighting experience is required, coupled with a working knowledge of technical elements.
Must be able to react quickly to critical situations that occur in a live environment.
A skill set consisting of lighting and color theory, some basic grip and rigging techniques, knowledge of traditional lighting fixtures and effects.
