Founded in Baltimore in 1985, Living Classrooms Foundation is a Baltimore – Washington, DC nonprofit that disrupts the cycle of poverty and helps our community become safer, stronger, and healthier by meeting individuals where they are and building skills for life. Living Classrooms inspires children, youth, and adults to achieve their potential through hands-on education, workforce development, health and wellness, and violence prevention programming.
The Chessie Dragons and Pirate Ship concessions provide up to 50 Baltimore youth annually with seasonal employment and employment training opportunities. For many Baltimore youth this is their first job and first experience associating and interacting with people outside their family, friends, and their area of residence. The concessions are also an important revenue producing program for Living Classrooms supporting other programs within the Foundation.
The Chessie and Pirate Assistant Program Manager reports directly to the Program Manager and is responsible for carrying out the mission and objectives of the President and Board of Directors of the Living Classrooms Foundation. With safety for both riders and staff as the number one priority, the Assistant Program Manager is responsible for the management, supervision, and implementation of operational activities of both the Chessie Dragon pedal boats and the electric Pirate Ships when the Program Manager is not on site. The Assistant Program Manager will otherwise assist the Program Manager with their duties as directed, promoting a culture of safety and friendly customer service. On-water boating experience, clear communications skill, and customer service skills are critical to success in this position.
Position Requirements. An applicant must have
Boating experience, safety training, first aid and CPR training
Their own reliable transportation.
Hold a valid driver’s license.
Show proof of having completed the Maryland Boat Safety Course if born after July 1, 1972.
Direct Responsibilities of the Assistant Program Manager include, but are not limited to:
Assisting the Program Manager with their daily duties and initiatives.
Supervision and safe operation of both the Chessie Dragon and Pirate Ship docks when the Program Manager is off site with careful adherence to established safety procedures and protocols.
Ensuring a positive, enjoyable, and safe experience for our customers.
Supervision of dock staff, promoting safe work habits, and providing safe working conditions.
Helping to train qualified and competent dock staff as Repair Technicians, Cashiers and Chase Boat Drivers.
Monitoring the appearance and conduct of dock personnel and providing the appropriate coaching when necessary.
Notifying the Program Manager and the Vice President, SEAPORT Operations immediately if a situation occurs resulting in guest or staff injury.
Secure and efficient cash management, accurate record keeping and making timely deposits as required by the Accounting Dept.
Maintaining security on the docks.
Regular maintenance, cleanliness and appearance of the boats, buildings, and docks. This includes performing daily repair work as necessary to maintain operations and managing the outsourcing of repair work as required.
General Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Being an effective leader who promotes a positive work ethic and good morale among staff.
Being a positive and effective spokesperson for Living Classrooms Foundation, the Chessie Dragons, and the Pirate Ships.
Such other duties assigned as by the Program Manager.
