The Systems Engineer provides a broad array of technical maintenance and support skills in support of the SHARP LMS application and related NMCI, CANES and stand-alone environments. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Hardware/Software Support – Manage the configuration of Windows servers to include installation/imaging, system and security patches, database administration, as well as installation and support for the SHARP LMS application in classified environments IAW DOD directives and industry best practices.
Ship Alt Support – Ability to work in an industrial shipyard environment with Customer Support Reps to conduct shipboard installation, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of the SHARP Enterprise family of systems. This can be in either a bare firewall or virtual environment.
Cyber Security Requirements Development – Act as the cyber security policy liaison to capture emerging requirements to ensure full cyber security compliance.
DevOps – Collaborate with software developers and test teams to help identify and resolve system issues early in the development lifecycle
Technical Assistance – Respond rapidly to customer / customer support rep issues via email, telephone, and personal visit. Troubleshoot and develop technical solutions to software and setup errors. Create workaround procedures when standard procedures have failed and ensure issues are resolved in a timely fashion. Escalate urgent problems requiring more in-depth knowledge/technical access to appropriate internal resources.
Additional Experience providing value:
Experience completing remote troubleshooting/performing root-cause analysis of complex issues with environments, infrastructures, and application/database errors
Vulnerability scanning (i.e. – ACAS, HBSS) and mitigation experience
Ship Alt / RMMCO / CANES experience
eMASS RMF C&A understanding
Security tool experience (IPS/IDS, host-based firewall, EMET)
Working knowledge of DOD environments, i.e. working with Harden systems. (understanding of OS hardening tactics)
Troubleshooting skills specifically in regards to installing .Net applications, IIS, SQL across multiple platforms (Win7, 2k3, 2k8, 2k12, 2k16)
Use of and understanding of Windows Domain OUs and Group Policies (GPOs).
Understanding of .Net web applications and construction of .config files
SQL Server 2008 administration and maintenance (basic T-SQL querying skills) 2012/2016 preferred
Server hardware build and component configuration
Basic scripting skills (PowerShell)
Windows Server 2008 Required, 2012/2016 preferred
IIS v7.0 and v.8x (app pool configuration and related permissions / security)
Virtual server build and maintenance (i.e. - VMware, MS HyperVisor)
Must obtain a full IAT Level II certification within first six months of being hired. IAT Level II certification is defined by DOD Directive 8140 (explicit guidance outlined in DOD 8570.01-M change 3) and entails acquiring two distinct certifications:
Official training in relevant Microsoft OS or formal OS certification
Understanding of DoD Accreditation Process - RMF
Special Skills or Training:
Understanding of DOD or NIST Security for Servers and applications.
Comp TIA Security plus and a Windows 2008 Certification or equivalent to qualify as an IAT 2 for DOD Workforce Compliance.
Typically requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty and 4-6 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
