Position Summary
The Director of the Recreation and Wellness Center (RWC) provides strategic leadership, innovative direction, and day-to-day oversight of the building to support recreation, well-being, and educational opportunities that align with divisional goals and the University’s strategic plan. The Director works collaboratively with building staff and campus partners to foster a sense of belonging by offering comprehensive programming and creating an inclusive environment. The Director is responsible for the stewardship of resources and efficiently manages facility operations. The Director supports our student-centered philosophy by providing mentorship and professional development opportunities for the RWC’s student workforce.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in recreation, sports management and marketing, physical education, higher education administration, or a closely related field, with at least 3 years of experience in recreation facility management in a University setting.
- Three-to-five years of progressively responsible administrative experience in recreation management, including direct experience in managing a facility that provides intramurals, fitness, aquatics, wellness programming, and other recreational activities. Experience in Higher Education Collegiate Recreation is preferred.
- Must be familiar with student development theory to support the student-led administrative model.
- Must be Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor Certified, or willing to obtain certification within 6 months of start date.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates should be familiar with resources and best practices supported by NIRSA and NACE.
Physical Demands
Must be able to meet the physical demands associated with a busy office and University environment. Requires physical effort such as lifting of at least 50 lbs., reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, balancing, and climbing.

Work Schedule
Work is performed in a busy campus-wide setting. Evening and weekend hours are frequently required for activities and events sponsored by the Recreation and Wellness Center as well as Gannon’s Student Development and Engagement Division.
