The Bureau of State Parks, State Park Region 4 Office, is looking for an energetic individual to learn the administration, operation, and maintenance of a state park or park complex. If you are a proactive individual who enjoys both hands-on work and administration, this position will afford you the opportunity to learn how to oversee park operations and direct a staff of hard-working, dedicated professionals.

Full-time employment: 37.5 hours/week - 7 day a week operation
Work hours may vary: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM; 30 minute lunch period
Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and all required shifts
Must be willing to be "on call" 24 hours a day
Must be willing to reside on state park grounds when housing is available
Must be willing to wear a prescribed uniform
While this position is headquartered at one of the four State Park Regional Offices or within Parks Central Office, as a trainee, you will be traveling to State Parks throughout the Region for day trips and/or overnight trips. This could be for temporary work assignments, trainings, etc. After successful completion of the Park Manager Trainee period, you will automatically be promoted to a working level Park Manager 1, and then will apply for competitive reassignment or promotion to a Park Manager position within the Bureau of State Parks.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position is in the Park Manager Trainee classification performing professional managerial work in park operations management. The position is assigned to the State Park Region 4 Office.
Assist with the direction of park recreational activities, environmental programs and activities, and visitor service programs, special activities programs, and public safety programs to ensure optimum use of state park facilities. Assist with the development of operating policies, procedures, standards and guidelines to manage a local park operation.
Assist with interviewing prospective employees and recommend selections. Assist with planning, organizing and scheduling of work. Assist with corrective disciplinary actions.
Assist in determining budgetary needs, the preparation of operating budget requests and the monitoring of expenditures. Work with the park Administrative Assistant or Regional Purchasing Agent with the preparation of service purchase contracts, along with requests for quotes, bids and awards. Assist with the preparation of project requests for remodeling, construction, repair or rehabilitation of facilities.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements - A bachelor's degree in parks and recreation, forestry, engineering, related natural sciences, or landscape architecture; OR an associate's degree in parks and recreation, forestry, engineering, related natural sciences, or landscape architecture, and two years of experience in the administration services, operational services, administration of the maintenance of the physical plant operations, visitor services and safety program, or environmental education services in a park or an outdoor recreational program; OR FOR REASSIGNMENT PURPOSES ONLY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES: Four years of experience as an Administrative Assistant 1, Park Maintenance Supervisor, or Park Ranger Supervisor in a State Park or State Park Regional Office, or four years of experience as an Environmental Education Specialist 1 in the Bureau of State Parks.
Necessary Special Requirement: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Conditions of Employment: Willingness to reside on state park grounds when housing is available. Willingness to work weekends and holidays and to be on call 24 hours per day. Willingness to wear a prescribed uniform.

Must be able to perform essential job functions
This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law. Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including, but not limited to, PA State Police, Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI clearance.
