Primary Responsibilities:
Reports directly to the Vice President, Cross Optum Programs in Consulting
Key leader contributing to Optum Life Sciences becoming a recognized industry leader in market access consulting leveraging the strengths of the broader Optum and United Healthcare network of capabilities
Spends 40% of time developing new business opportunities and 60% providing management oversight on project delivery and staff development
Targets of $15M in annual sales, $4M in revenue, at 60% direct margin and an individual billable rate of 60%

Grows Top Line Performance:
Develop, network and utilize champions and industry contacts to grow the Optum Life Science’s business both for Cross Optum and other service lines
Builds and maintains client executive relationships presenting a positive image of UnitedHealth Group and Optum in the marketplace
Leads development, delivery and defense of proposals that are customized to unique client needs to close $15M in sales
Designs and presents programs both internally and externally

Ensures Consistent Delivery for Clients:
Main day to day client facing contact for project delivery
Oversight and management of consulting team (5- 8+ FTEs) to deliver projects within budget and timelines
Oversees a project portfolio of between 5 to 10 projects at all times depending on project scope, complexity and timelines
Build frameworks, process and discipline throughout the team to drive consistency in delivery
Effectively manages escalated client situations to a positive result, anticipating problems, working with key internal constituents, and driving resolution

Delivers Consistent Financial Performance for Optum:
Consistently achieves margin targets in pricing and delivering projects
Maintains a rapid and consistent pace for consulting teams to sell and deliver a growing stream of work and resources the organization appropriately
Oversees process to scope and price individual projects to ensure differentiation and optimal profitability, balancing the need to discount work for strategic clients
Leverages resources wisely to optimize staff utilization on billable work

Grows Organizational Capabilities:
Main human resource and project specific lead to define individual performance objectives and assess team member performance in line with personal development plans
Develops self to master sales, consulting business management, consulting skills and business relevant content information
Work collaboratively within Cross Optum, across Life Sciences and across Optum and UHC to develop and deliver new solutions
Develop new tools that leverage internal and external data that can both be sold to clients as products as well as can drive efficiency in delivery when used by internal consulting teams and business development
Define frameworks and process to standardize routine pieces of proposal development and project delivery so that staff con focus on customizing solutions to our clients’ unique business needs

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
10+ years progressive clinical and/or life sciences experience supporting product development and / or commercialization in both the industry and consulting setting
3+ years of experience Managing teams of 4+ people
Proven skills in developing new relationships and influencing technical management
Executive presence and ability to communicate with Pharma executives as well as UHG
Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills
Ability to travel at least 30%
Ability to gain consensus and act within a growing organization
Business experience / acumen with demonstrated planning, implementation, creativity, and organizational skills
Successful sales experience with consulting or professional services offerings to the Life Sciences industry

Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree, MBA or other
Ability to work effectively and independently in a flexible, unstructured environment
High energy level, positive attitude, output driven and team orientated
A people person that connects with others easily
Ability to solve challenging issues across the organization, within teams and balance a hectic workload with a lot of moving pieces
