We are looking for a Sr. Surety Commercial Underwriter who understands the importance of building and maintaining relationships. But we need an independent self-starter. Will you join our team?

In this role, you will apply underwriting concepts to evaluate and write new and renewal Commercial Surety accounts. Managing an assigned book of business, you will provide profitable results primarily focusing on three key areas: quality new business production, optimizing underwriting terms, (indemnity, rate, bond appetite) while balancing retention and achieving service and quality standards. Your Commercial Surety experience will be important in building new and deepening existing client relationships in the Dallas or Houston area. Therefore, any penetration you’ve had in the oil or energy industries would be beneficial. You will also develop successful internal relationships. You will experience significant autonomy in this role, with 25 percent travel based on the TX,
AR, OK, and LA territory. Understand that your strong underwriting skills, can’t be emphasized enough.

About You

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • AFSB (Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding) Designation preferred
  • 5-7+ years’ Commercial Surety Underwriting experience.
  • 5-7+ years’ experience driving agency relationships resulting in profitable new and renewal business
  • Command of fundamental and advanced underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills; ability to effectively communicate difficult or technical decisions
  • Proficient in ability to identify, analyze and solve problems and prioritize multiple concurrent projects
  • Viewed as an informal leader amongst the team/branch/region/LOB
  • Open to and proactively shares knowledge and expertise with peers, management and leadership
  • Consistently demonstrates high level of proficiency across Commercial Surety UW core competencies.
