The Office of Injured Employee Counsel (OIEC) is the state agency that helps injured employees with their Texas workers’ compensation claims. The agency assists, educates, and advocates on their behalf. OIEC provides services in 20 offices across the state. Agency services include advocacy, customer service, and dispute assistance through OIEC’s Ombudsman Program.

First Responder Intern, paid, part-time

OIEC has a designated employee who serves as a liaison for first responders with workers’ compensation claims. The First Responder Intern will assist the OIEC First Responder Liaison with day-to-day administrative tasks and provide project level support related to the agency’s programs and operations.

We are looking for a current or recent college student who is ready to contribute, bring a high level of energy and can-do attitude. You must have the ability to multi-task, be a self-starter and see a task through to completion. This internship will end on or before approximately three months after hire.

The intern will be paid once a month on the first working day of the month and work 20 hours/week. There may be an opportunity to work more than 20 hours/week for additional compensation.

This position:
  • answers inbound calls; and
  • provides administrative support to the department.
This position requires:
  • graduation from high school or equivalent. Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis; and
  • nine months full-time experience in an office setting performing administrative work.
Preferences for this position include:
  • bilingual in English and Spanish language skills (oral);
  • prior internship experience; and
  • college hours or recent graduate from college within last two years.
This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
This position requires demonstrated skill in:
  • explaining information to others;
  • providing excellent customer service; and
  • use of correct grammar, punctuation and spelling.
This position requires the demonstrated ability to:
  • continually display a positive attitude;
