Engineering Manager I - Operations
At Ball Aerospace’s Westminster Colorado location, we develop and manufacture state of the art RF & sensor technologies that are integrated onto tactical missile and aircraft platforms. If you’d like to join our rapidly growing operations team in a mission to help the warfighter, this could be an ideal role for you. The Operations Manager role will support a new location dedicate to the development of advanced sensor technologies. This opportunity requires a result driven individual, with vision, to solve system challenges in direct support of the Tactical Solutions (TS) Strategic Business Unit (SBU).
What you’ll do:
Manage general operations of a 90K Sq Ft facility dedicated to the Imaging and Surveillance (IAS) TS mission area while supporting multiple organizations matrixed in from across the Aerospace division.
Collaborate with matrix organizations ensuring employee safety while coordinating the execution of business need solutions.
Act as a general Facility and Operations manager supporting 150+ employees of various disciplines executing the development of several sensor technologies.
Develop a strong relationship with mission area leadership to identify their value proposition and develop a strategy to achieve it.
Lead Industrial and Manufacturing engineers to forecast growth and generate plans for advancing operations to meet future capacity demand.
Develop and manage a localized plan, using Hoshin Kanri, to effectively connect our strategy with tactics.
Recognize organizational gaps and implement a structured design to maximize value creating activities.
Lead the organization with a Lean coaching approach (respect for people, “go and see” behavior, put problems first, and continuously intensify collaboration).
Implement a sustainable 6S program.
Maintain a strong focus on safety, training, and the development of people.
Drive the creation and implementation of process metrics to understand the health of development operations while providing a baseline for continuous improvement.
Plan, develop, and control the departments indirect budget while maintaining stable, competitive, and predictable rates.
Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
Perform other duties as necessary.
What you’ll need:
BS/BA in related field plus 10 years or more related experience.
Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related Engineering experience preferred.
Experience developing and maintaining strong customer relationships, establishing a deep understanding of their environment, and generating a clear understanding of the challenges they face.
A systems approach to Lean Product & Process Development focusing on people, process, and tools.
A creative approach to problem solving and an appetite for experimentation.
Experience aligning and influencing fellow employees without direct functional responsibilities.
Strong presentation skills to communicate with senior leadership.
An innate mentality that seeks dynamic gains over static optimizations.
A strong focus on the horizontal flow of value across several supporting organizations.
The ability to clearly define and convey purpose for all team members supporting the value stream.
Demonstrated experience successfully leading projects and/or teams.
Desired experience with capital planning and execution.
Demonstrated aptitude for collaboration, recognition of individuals strengths and areas for improvement, and an ability to manage misalignment between individuals and/or groups.
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead an engineering, planning, and/or technical resource organization through a “Lean transformation.”
Experience mentoring, training, and staffing employees with a strong commitment to improving organizational diversity and inclusion.
Experience of implementation and sustainment of ISO 9001 certification.
Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
