Semper Valens Solutions is actively seeking an Oracle Database Administrator for Ft. Sam Houston, Texas.
The Distributed Common Ground System-Army (DCGS-A) Database Administrator (DBA) will provide technical support of the DCGS-A, Army Division. The DCGS-A DBA serves as a member of a globally distributed team that fields, repairs, integrates, and maintains client and server systems for the DCGS-A Programs. DCGS-A systems are a diverse mix of software and hardware solutions designed to meet challenging intelligence processing, exploitation, and dissemination requirements for the Army at war. DCGS-A features unique data scalability requirements and allows for a flexible system evolution.
Database Admin Requirements:
The Database Administrator (DBA) will serve as a member of a team responsible for providing Oracle database support, as well as engineering efforts towards database ingestion. The position involves working directly with the customer on Ft. Sam Houston to ensure operational success. Responsibilities include:
Configure, troubleshoot, tune, harden systems to compliance, prepare for accreditation, apply patches, and provide overall administration on up to 30 different instances of Microsoft (Search and Query Language) SQL Server, Oracle Relational Database Management System (RDBMS)
Implement incremental backup strategy and ability to recover using Recovery Manager (RMAN) catalog for Oracle databases, and fault tolerance with standby read replica databases synchronized for disaster protection (Oracle Data Guard)
Automate processes with scheduled SQL scripting and stored procedures (BASH, PL/SQL, Stored Procedures) and schedule jobs with Oracle scheduler.
Knowledge and experience in managing Schema, Schema Objects, Tables, Indexes and Views.
Knowledge and experience in managing the management of database data files, control files and log files in Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM).
Support Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) data architectures and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) data warehouse implementations, migration of data, transitions to newer versions, tuning system configurations based on performance anomalies/security, and design strategies supporting database lifecycle.
Improving the overall security posture of Oracle instances for the Command Cyber Readiness Inspections (CCRI) and applying changes in order meet requirements outlined in applicable STIGs and recommending formal responses to assist in creation of POA&M.
Ability to work and troubleshoot in Windows and Linux environments.
Document standard operating procedures for Oracle administration and maintenance to develop continuity for customer site and document known troubleshooting techniques to assist in identifying and responding to Oracle errors and issues.
Database Admin Experience/Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or a related scientific or technical discipline and the minimum 3 years of DBA experience. Four additional years of applicable experience may be substituted for the degree.
Certification: DoD 8570 IAT Level 2 – Security+ certification.
Knowledge and experience with the primary System: Distributed Common Ground Station – Army (DCGS-A) is a plus.
