We are seeking a virologist to lead non-clinical antiviral drug evaluation activities. The candidate will provide scientific expertise and leadership for drug discovery research and development programs in collaboration with academic institutions and biotech/pharma/contract research partners.
Candidate must have prior experience with the progression of viral inhibitors through discovery and development: medicinal chemistry optimization of lead compounds based on structure-based design, in vitro target-specific biochemical assays, antiviral assays and preclinical in vivo efficacy and pharmacology models; assessment of drug candidates for the appropriate safety, drug metabolic/pharmacokinetic, regulatory, and clinical development properties.
Lead all activities associated with the development of novel antiviral entities and the nonclinical evaluation of those entities.
Drive the planning and implementation of virologic assessments as part of a clinical development program.
Influencing teams by providing operational expertise to ensure that parallel supporting studies are delivered within timelines through design, planning, implementation, analysis and reporting.
Support clinical trials designed to evaluate novel antiviral agents developed through the activities above.
Lead external collaborations and partnerships (academic, not for profit and commercial).
Responsible for reports and regulatory submission documents.
Participate in additional evaluations for additional non-viral therapeutic areas.
Provide scientific expertise and leadership for drug discovery research and development programs across various stakeholders.

PhD in life sciences (molecular virology or biochemistry) with 10+ years in related field.
Strong Background in the genetics, replication, pathogenesis, structure and molecular biology of viruses
First-hand pharma or biotech experience in the development of antiviral agents targeting virus-specific or virus-induced functions, from early lead identification through drug registration.
Experience leading and/or managing complex projects in collaboration with external partners.
Fluency in English (oral and written).
Strong strategic thinker with mature leadership and influencing skills.
Top class written communication and oral presentations skills appropriate for senior management and key opinion leader forums.
Organizational and project management skills.
