Exide Technologies is currently looking for qualified candidates for electrical and mechanical maintenance positions at its manufacturing facility for batteries in Manchester, Iowa. The available positions shall encompass machine rebuilding and repairs on all production and building equipment or machinery including but not limited to the following: oxide mills, baghouses, grid casting machines, lead melting pots, plate pasting equipment, plastic heat seal machine, material handling equipment, rectifiers, product testing devices, ventilation, heating and cooling units, water pumps, building wiring. Successful candidates must (1) have prior maintenance experience (strongly preferred in a manufacturing and or industrial environment); (2) be able to troubleshoot and repair pneumatics, hydraulics, and power transmission systems; (3) demonstrated knowledge and capability in the following disciplines; 480V 3 phase power, design of relay logic, design of PLC logic/programming, interpretation of electrical schematics, demonstrated knowledge of wire size, fuse size, motor controllers; AND OR must be able to read related schematics, rebuilding and repair components, reading blueprints, ability to operate assorted hand tools, machine shop equipment (lathe, mill, surface grinder) and fabricate parts from prints, arc and wire weld; (4) must be able to handle physical requirements (such as lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally throughout shift, frequently stand with periodic climbing, turning, and bending required and follow safety protocol (lock-out/tag-out, use of PPE); (5) speak and communicate in English.
MUST be available to work 2nd or 3rd shift and train on 1st shift!
Shifts are scheduled for 8 or 12 hours, but mandatory overtime may be required; weekend work should also be expected
The starting pay rate will be between $23-26 per hour; skill and business need will determine pay.

Will be required to work with limited direct supervision.
Must be able to understand and communicate in simple English to receive training instruction and perform team
Must follow safety and health procedures for the protection of self and fellow workers including lock out/tag out, confined space entry.
Must accurately complete work orders, parts requests and other paperwork as required.
Should have excellent attendance and must comply with the company attendance policy and reporting procedures.
Must adhere to plant policies and procedures depicted in the employee handbook as well as conform to accepted general practices and conduct(Item numbers 11-16 only pertain to Maintenance Technician position)
For Industrial Electrician position:
Be capable of effectively meeting a wide range of diverse plant electrical work and project needs. Position requires strong electrical background and aptitude. Must be capable of developing new methods to overcome electrical engineering or maintenance problems. Fabrication and welding skills are required. Will assist in assisting with leadership of maintenance skills on projects which require a higher level of technical expertise.
Demonstrated knowledge and capability in the following disciplines; 480V 3 phase power, design of relay logic, design of PLC logic/programming, interpretation of electrical schematics, demonstrated knowledge of wire size, fuse size, motor controllers.
Demonstrated knowledge and compliance ability with NEC and OSHA regulations as well as demonstrated mechanical ability in the following areas: troubleshooting, machine fabrication, overhauling, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
Will be required to work with limited direct supervision and will ensure a satisfactory level of electrical parts inventory is maintained.
For Mechanical position:
Will be responsible for trouble shooting and effectively repairing equipment that is beyond capabilities of General Maintenance personnel.
Will be responsible for training Maintenance personnel of complex problems when asked.
Will be called upon during work hours and after work hours to address complex maintenance issues.
Will be assigned complex projects that exceed General Maintenance abilities.
Must posses the ability to direct projects and personnel assigned to the project as required
Continuous standing, lifting, bending, and twisting
Occasionally required to work in extreme environmental conditions (hot, cold, humid)
Must wear personal protective equipment such as gloves, respirator, safety glasses, and steel toed shoes, hearing protection, etc., as outlined in established department PPE policy.
Must be able to do some heavy lifting - able to handle and lift up to 70 lbs. occasionally throughout shift.
Small hand tools, control panels, data collection equipment.
Mechanical position: Multimeter, amp probe, lathe, mill, benchtop grinder, drill press, other testing equipment, bench and hand power tools, numerous types of powered equipment, control panels, and safety equipment
Electrical position: Multimeter, oscilloscope, amp probe, other testing equipment, bench and hand power tools, numerous types of powered equipment, control panels, and safety equipment.
Must be able to wear work uniform, personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, heat resistant sleeves as needed, hearing protection; metatarsal steel-toed shoes; blue leather, blue hynit, or white cotton gloves, and respirator as required by Lead in Air's in the department.
Education, Experience, Skills Required:
Mechanical or Electrical experience required.
Previous manufacturing and or industrial experience strongly preferred
Must achieve passing score on pre-employment assessment(s)
