The Xbox Advanced Technology Group (ATG) is looking for a passionate and experienced Technical Art Director to join our team and work in close collaboration with engineers and creatives across Xbox. The role offers the opportunity to explore and define content creation methodologies and help game teams achieve their visual goals – both internally to Microsoft Studios and across our 3rd party ecosystem. With strong communication skills, ability to self-drive work and a passion for enabling others you will be responsible for developing targeted tools, assets and workflows that ship in some of our key franchises or as part of the platform tools.

The Xbox Advanced Technology Group (ATG) team is at the forefront of ensuring the games that ship on Microsoft platforms are the best in the industry. We empower, accelerate and partner with the industry’s best creators to create industry defining games across. Games exclusive to our platforms must showcase our hardware, software, and services. Games that ship across multiple platforms should be best on Microsoft’s platforms. ATG is at the heart of those efforts. We also act as the voice of the game development community, working closely with our platform teams across Microsoft to ensure we are providing the best platform for game developers across all disciplines. ATG is on the leading edge of games development at Microsoft through tight coordination with our worldwide partners developing content on our platform and focused, targeted innovation around audio, visuals, and user experience.

Responsibilities
Partner directly with internal studios, our external developers and partners to help deliver the best visual quality in the industry on Microsoft’s platforms. Act as a technical art expert - handling all aspects of producing prototypes, defining processes, writing tools and sharing knowledge.
Incubate and develop innovative solutions to visual problems and workflows. Use your passion for learning, implementing and sharing the latest innovations in real-time graphics and content authoring. Identify and author software and tools to achieve this goal.
Help bridge communication between content and engineering teams, providing insight and solutions to make game development better for artists. Provide feedback to the Xbox tools teams, helping us create better platform tools for game artists.
Be a leading member of art community at Xbox. Share knowledge across Microsoft by generalizing technologies and integrating industry best practices. Form and lead internal cross-team groups to establish and update these best practices.
Partner with games designers and engineers to help develop content plans, implement solutions and provide feedback across disciplines.
Work with teams on technical art reviews of their titles – highlighting opportunities for improvement in quality and process.
Leverage relationships within the Operating Systems Group, Microsoft Research and other parts of Microsoft to bring new approaches to content creation and technologies to our games.
Work with external partners like software vendors, middleware providers and hardware companies to help maximize value for game developers and teams at Microsoft.
Attend and present at industry trade shows such as GDC and Siggraph on behalf of the Xbox and Microsoft Studios content community.
Qualifications
5+ years of industry-related design experience.
Computer Science/relevant degree or comparable experience.
Strong communication skills.
1+ years' experience with commercial game engines like Unreal Engine 4 and/or Unity3D or equivalent propriety engines.
Demonstrable experience working with DCC applications such as Maya, Max, Modo or Houdini. The ability to extend the capabilities of these packages via plugin APIs is required.
Strong Python programming skills for tool authoring/high level engine modifications. Other languages like C++ or C# are bonus.
Willingness to travel for developer visits and conferences.
BONUS SKILLS

Prior experience presenting on artistic or technical topics at industry conferences.
Experience with data acquisition such as 3D scanning, motion capture and the processing of this data.
