Field Interviewer (Travel Position)

The American Institute of Consumer Studies (AICS) is a nationwide leader in market research and is currently seeking individuals who are interested in becoming traveling Field Interviewers to work on the ongoing, 40 year study “The Survey of the American Consumer”. The purpose of this study is to interview and collect data on consumers in various demographics across the United States on their media habits and product purchases. This position requires the Field Interviewer to go door to door interviewing respondents randomly selected to participate in our study, and you will provide the respondent with a cash gift as a thank you for their time!


  • High school diploma or GED
  • Have a reliable personal vehicle, a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance
  • Able to travel to work 10-14 consecutive days out of the month for an assignment
  • Able to work a flexible schedule consisting of days, nights and weekends while on assignment
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions, walk or stand for long periods of times, carry and hold materials between 10-20 lbs. at any time
  • Able to successfully complete training course (requires travel to Philadelphia area)
  • Ability to read script verbatim from a tablet screen and navigate materials necessary to perform interview
  • Perform effective communication skills through reading, writing, speaking and listening
  • For Spanish-speaking Field Interviewers: Must be able to perform effective communication skills through reading, writing, speaking and listening in English & Spanish. A fluency test must be successfully passed prior to training


  • Successfully perform in-person interviews without a preset appointment of selected respondent
  • Obtain cooperation of household members by effectively screening for appropriate respondent and administer the study verbatim
  • Work a variable hour schedule of approximately 10-14 consecutive days a month, traveling anywhere in the US to conduct interviews
  • Available and willing to work evening and weekend hours while working on assignments
  • Work with you supervisor daily and complete assignments on schedule
  • Accurately complete all assignment documents and reports including interview-related paperwork, data collection and any additional reporting forms
  • Abide by project deadlines for screening households, reporting progress, submitting documentation, and returning materials to AICS


  • Travel to Newtown Square, PA to attend and successfully complete a Paid 5-day training course.
  • Field Interviewers receive a guaranteed hourly wage while working on assignment, plus additional incentives for production in the field
  • All travel expenses are covered by the organization and travel time is compensated hourly by the minimum wage of your state
