The Department of Correction is recruiting for a Correctional Identification and Records Specialist 2 to work in the SCIM Unit. The position location can be at any facility, with travel to Suffield upon occasion. This position is a full time, first shift, non-hazardous clerical opening, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Correction Offender Classification and Population Management Unit and/or Central Records this class is accountable for performing as a specialist in sentence management and time calculations.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Performs specialized tasks pertaining to inmate sentence and time calculations; acts as departmental spokesperson; provides training to agency personnel, law enforcement personnel and others on issues pertaining to inmate records and time calculations; coordinates and controls a system of inmate records management including teleprocessing, tracking, locating and reporting to courts, law enforcement officials and appropriate members of the public; reviews statutes, decisions and legal opinions concerned with sentenced time calculations; drafts administrative directives that pertain to inmate records; compiles a variety of statistical reports; develops and maintains procedure manuals to be used by Identification and Records Specialists on a departmental basis; holds monthly meeting for records personnel; audits inmate records at departmental facilities; oversees compilation and editing of criminal records of each inmate through correspondence and communication with other law enforcement agencies; may testify in court on complex sentence and time computation problems; performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Considerable knowledge of large volume records management methods and techniques; considerable knowledge of statutes, legal decisions and opinions related to sentence time calculations; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; ability to organize data for entry into database systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Five (5) years' clerical work experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
One (1) year of the General Experience must have been as a Correctional Identification and Records Specialist 1.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
Preferred candidate will have:
Experience advising and/or answering questions for the AG's office
Ability to obtain and retain COLLECT Certification
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
Experience creating and maintaining statistical data in spreadsheet format
Ability to develop core curriculum for records and time calculation
Familiarity with the auditing process
Proficiency in the use of the Offender Query Builder System
Knowledge of restrictive statuses as they pertain to sentence and time calculation
Proficiency in use of CaseNotes System
Proficiency in the use of Judicial Information System
Incumbents in this class are required to possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification by the time of permanent appointment.
