Director, Business Management (Chief of Staff) will directly support the Chief Merchandising Officer (CMO) as an advisor and will play a critical role in facilitating the Merchandising Operating Model. This includes directing business projects & strategic initiatives, setting operational direction, and driving communication efforts that cut across Merchandising, while collaborating with strategic business partners and key stakeholders to drive outcomes.

Core Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Roadmap Support: You will establish & maintain a strategic & holistic roadmap tied to the rhythm of the business and set operational direction across a diverse range of projects and initiatives. You will proactively identify issues that may contribute to organizational success and provide solutions and recommendations to including generation and evaluation of new growth opportunities for Nordstrom Merchandising Group.
Business Function Integration: You will identify opportunities to create cross group collaboration and synergies across Merchandising. You will demonstrate discretion and professionalism when working with leadership on sensitive business and organizational issues and are able to effectively manage ambiguity and propose workable solutions to challenging problems.
Leadership Effectiveness and Communications: As Merchandising continues to experience evolution and growth, you will own and drive processes and agendas, including follow through and related communications to enable successful leadership and operations of the organization. You will assess current meetings and decision-making forums and provide recommendations for increasing effectiveness and the appropriate sequence/cadence. You will facilitate agenda preparation and pre-work for key leadership meetings in a coordinated way so that meetings are highly productive and follow up/accountability measures are in place. You will maximize the effectiveness of the CMO by helping balance priorities, communicate effectively and connect with the team.
Project Management: You will support and manage a diverse range of project-based initiatives and provide insight and thought leadership as needed. This includes managing complex, cross functional business initiatives. You will also support the data collection, coordination and content curation.
General Business Administration: In partnership with the Finance team and Merchandising leaders you will have accountability for tracking KPIs and supporting the identification, pace and cadence of business reviews.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred
8+ years of related experience
Demonstrated success in formulating strategy and guiding implementation
Strong business acumen and project management skills with understanding of merchandising
Effective at driving complex multi-stakeholder processes and cross-team programs to desired results while managing risk
Ability to execute and lead large scale transformation/turnaround efforts
Strong capability in verbal and written communications skills to all levels
Strong belief and experience in data-driven decision making
Maintains confidentiality without exception
Ability to create effective relationships, influence, and collaborate internally and externally at all organizational levels
