General Summary/Purpose
  • Proton Therapy Assistant Administrator reports directly to the JHM Radiation Oncology Senior Administrator
  • Proton Therapy Assistant Administrator will have accountability to the Proton Therapy Medical Director, the Radiation Oncology Clinical Director at Sibley (C. Deville), and the VP of Operations at Sibley (C. Shafa).
  • Proton Therapy Assistant Administrator will oversee all administrative, financial, and operational functions of the proton therapy center including the alignment of proton therapy services with Radiation Oncology Mission Objectives across all sites and with the SKCCC multidisciplinary teams already established and in development.
Organizational Governance - Proton Therapy:
Johns Hopkins Proton Therapy at Sibley is a key clinical, research, and training unit within the Department of Radiation Oncology and Molecular Radiation Sciences. The Department is led by Akila Viswanathan, M.D., Interim Functional Unit Director and Chairman. The proton center has a dual leadership structure with a Medical Director and a Clinical Director. The Medical Director is responsible for carrying out the overall vision of the proton therapy program, including the development of the clinical, research and education missions within the program. The Clinical Director is responsible for the overall patient centric operations of the clinical proton therapy program and for the care coordination of the proton therapy program within the broader Kimmel Cancer Center, including the radiation oncology photon program at Sibley. The Medical Director and the Clinical Director will work collaboratively to ensure that the strategic and clinical operations of the program are operating efficiently and effectively, and in doing so, the proton therapy management team will have a dual, dotted-line reporting relationship to the Medical Director and to the Clinical Director. The Assistant Administrator will collaborate the Senior Administrator, the Medical Director, the Clinical Director, and the Chair to ensure that the Mission and Strategic Objectives of the proton therapy centered are implemented and achieved.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • In collaboration with the Radiation Oncology leadership and clinical teams, oversee the administrative and financial development of the Strategic Proton Therapy Clinical Program
o Disease specific program development
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop disease specific proton therapy pathways
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop benchmark treatment protocols and to develop new and innovative treatment protocols
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop training programs for the integration of proton therapy into the service
  • Collaborate with Department leadership for the recruitment of disease specific proton therapy faculty
  • Collaborate with Sibley, Cancer Center, and Department leadership to develop clinical support structures for proton therapy disease specific programs
  • Collaborate with Sibley, Cancer Center, and Department leadership to advance disease specific referral relationships and pathways
  • Collaborate with Sibley, the Cancer Center, Department leadership, and other clinical partners to develop international outreach efforts that foster patient referrals and strategic international partnerships.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Physics director on the acceptance and commissioning of the proton therapy equipment to achieve appropriate deadlines
o Collaborate with the Director of Nursing, the Radiation Therapy Clinical Manager, the Proton Therapy-Medical Physics Chief, and the Revenue Cycle Assistant Administrator to ensure effective planning and implementation of clinical throughput, access, operations, quality assurance, and patient safety.
o Collaborate with the Sibley and Radiation Oncology leadership to ensure effective planning and implementation of the integration activities of the proton therapy workflows and the Sibley hospital clinical workflows.
o Collaborate with Sibley, Radiation Oncology, and Cancer Center leadership to ensure safe and effective access to the proton therapy center for both patients and providers across local and external markets.
o Collaborate with Sibley and Radiation Oncology leadership on patient centered programs such as patient satisfaction, patient advisory, patient support programs, and employee engagement.

Research Mission:
  • In collaboration with the Radiation Oncology leadership and research teams, oversee the administrative and financial development of the Strategic Proton Therapy Research Program
o Ensure effective planning and implementation of disease specific clinical trial protocols for proton therapy
o Collaborate with MRS leadership and faculty to develop the translational research program
o Collaborate with Medical Physics and clinical faculty to develop a technology based research program, including big data and Oncospace.

Education Mission:
  • In collaboration with the Radiation Oncology leadership and research teams, oversee the administrative and financial development of the Strategic Proton Therapy Education Program
  • Ensure effective planning and implementation of educational programs for training staff, faculty and residents in proton therapy
  • Collaborate with Department leadership to develop international educational opportunities related to the proton center
Financial Leadership:
  • In collaboration with the Radiation Oncology leadership and research teams, oversee the administrative and financial development of the Strategic Proton Therapy Education Program
  • Collaborate with Department and Sibley Finance teams in business planning and business accountability programs
  • Collaborate with Department and Sibley Finance teams to oversee financial and operational analytics and reporting
  • Collaborate with Department leadership to evaluate faculty compensation plans with respect to the proton center.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or other related field.
  • Seven (7) years progressively responsible professional-level administrative and financial experience related to monetary or non-monetary resources of a department, center, or unit, including two (2) years financial management experience (e.g., planning, directing, monitoring, organizing, and controlling monetary and non-monetary resources).
  • JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in a related field may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted.
  • Leadership experience in a clinical setting with experience in the development and direction of the delivery of health service required.
  • Supervisory experience strongly preferred. CPC certification preferred.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience in an academic medical environment strongly preferred. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Excellent organizational skills. Aptitude for figures and attention to detail. Ability to interact effectively. Capable of meeting deadlines and working well under pressure.
  • Knowledge of PCs and PC applications. Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills required. Knowledge of JHM and JHU/ PBS billing applications.
