DEPARTMENT: Merrill Field Airport
HOURS OF WORK: 4/10's shift may varies; Saturday through Tuesday 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Airport Maintenance Shop 835 Merrill Field Drive
Example of Duties: Operates a variety of light, medium and heavy equipment, heavy construction involving complex manipulative skills. Perform basic maintenance duties including upkeep on airport equipment and grounds landscaping, perform rough carpentry work and light concrete and asphalt work. Learn and utilize maintenance skills to perform a wide variety of maintenance tasks including heavy manual labor and semi-skilled work. Occasionally perform unskilled labor tasks. Perform maintenance, diagnostic and repair on electronic gate controls utilizing LAN and wireless computer applications. This position receive work assignment in broad outline and is expected to use own judgment in proper method of doing the work. Periodically supervises field operations. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and two (2) years experience in operating equipment such as graders, front end loaders, snow blowers, runway broom, sweepers, light/medium trucks, and steam cleaners. Physically capable of performing heavy work, often under adverse weather conditions.
Must possess a valid State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement, no airbrake restrictions at time of hire. Applicants with a restriction of "L-Vehicles Without Air Brake Systems Only" are not eligible.

As a condition of employment, the person selected will be required to successfully complete a drug test prior to beginning work and will be subject to future periodic drug and alcohol tests on a random basis without advance notice.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's State of Alaska Class B Commercial driver's license (CDL) with tanker endorsement, no airbrake or transmission restrictions and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.
