The Building Division is responsible for the building and safety standards for design, construction, use, and occupancy of all buildings and structures within the City of Vallejo. They provide plan checking, permitting, and inspection services for new construction, additions, renovations, alterations and remodels to assure all structures meet the minimum life safety standards of State and local codes adopted by the City of Vallejo.THE CITY OF VALLEJO The City of Vallejo is located in Solano County and has a population of approximately 121,000 residents. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Inspect industrial, commercial and residential buildings during various stages of construction and remodeling to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and regulations.Inspect existing buildings for change of use, occupancy, or compliance with applicable codes and ordinances.Inspect foundation, concrete, steel, masonry, wood construction, framing, plastering, plumbing, heating and electrical installations and a large variety of other complex and routine building system elements.Issue notices to comply on violations; maintain records of history of facts for possible legal actions.Approve the issuance of building and occupancy permits based on level of assigned duties.Coordinate inspection activities with other City departments and divisions as required.Confer with architects, contractors, builders and the general public in the field and office; explain and interpret requirements and restrictions.Maintain files and reports regarding inspection activities and findings.Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Working ConditionsOffice and inspection site environment; exposure to dust and noise; some climbing, stooping, light lifting and inspecting in confined areas.The Recruitment & Selection Process: MUST ATTACH CERTFICATION TO APPLICATION: I.C.B.O/I.C.C. other city approved agency's certification as a combination building inspector.NOTE: Separate Building, Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical ICC/ICBO certifications will be accepted as equal to a Combination Building Inspector certification.1. Applications will be screened for overall qualifications the week of April 20, 2023. 2. Candidates who are deemed to be the best qualified will be invited to take part in an assessment process which may consist of written, online, oral, or performance exercises. Candidates invited to the assessment process will be notified by email of the date, time, and location of the assessment. The tentative date is first week of May 2023. 3. Candidates placed on the Register of Eligible (eligible list) will be referred to the department for final interviews based on their performance in the exam.
