Library Division Chief - Children’s Services and Family Engagement

Duties: Responsible for systemwide library services to children and parents with an emphasis on the on the design and implementation of systemwide programs, services and promotions such as early childhood programs and Summer Learning Challenge. Responsible for collection development, children’s reference and school and community outreach. Responsible for the preparation of grants and management of expenditures of corporate and grant budgets. Coordinates promotion of library services through displays, exhibits and general publicity and contributes information to the libraries website. Participates in long term planning, developing and interpreting of library policy and reviews policies and procedures related to children’s services. Meets and communicates regularly with children’s librarians to clarify system expectations and provide professional development. Helps establish and maintain a high standard of youth services for the library. Plans, coordinates and participates in staff development. Establishes partnerships with organizations.
LOCATION: 400 S. State Street- Children’s Services and Family Engagement
DAYS OFF: Saturday and Sunday (may be required to work evenings and weekend based on programing needs)
SHIFT: Monday- Friday 9:00- 5:00
HOURS: 35 hours per week to be scheduled during normal unit hours
THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE
Graduation from an accredited American Library Association college or university with a Master's degree in Library Science or an approved foreign credential evaluation plus five years of professional library experience of which three years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position.
