The Controller will be located at Obsidian Solutions Group corporate headquarters and will be responsible for establishing and maintaining accounting systems and procedures for government contracts in accordance with GAAP and DCAA. The Controller will manage the AR, AP, and other general ledger functions for government contracts, including cost allocations, and support the executive and operating teams with all aspects of Federal accounting and financial performance. He or She will assist operating teams and the contract administrator in managing government contracts, including funding, modifications, resource allocation and forecasting, and close out procedures. In addition, the Controller will support proposal activity, including pricing information for RFP’s and other sale requests, collaborate and work with the Accounting & Finance teams during the month end close process, be the lead support with external auditors and other regulatory agencies (DCAA) and oversee the preparation of required items, and assist the Director of Finance in preparation of financial reports and budgeting process.
Manage accounting staff as appropriate
Oversee all operations of the accounting department, to include G/L, Billing, A/P, A/R, Payroll, Cash Management, Taxes, Budgeting, Reporting, Policies & Procedures, etc.
Produce timely and accurate monthly and quarterly financial reports, to include consolidated financials, executive summaries, budget vs. actual variances, project level reporting, etc.
Maintain a system of controls over accounting functions
Ensure compliance with all rules and regulations (FAR, DCAA, IRS, etc.)
Prepare for and oversee external audits (Financial Statements, DCAA, etc.)
Provide excellent customer service and support to all internal and external constituents
Knowledge and Skills
Strong IT skills (Excel, Costpoint, etc.)
Knowledge of GAAP, FAR, CAS, etc.
Initiative and ability to manage multiple projects in an autonomous environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to complete projects timely and accurately
Comfortable working in a matrixed organization structure and a fast-paced environment
Must be able to perform other duties, responsibilities and activities as needed.
Experience and Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and 5+ years of progressive experience as a Controller (or equivalent combination of education and experience) are required.
Strong government contract accounting experience, including DCAA and FAR/DFAR
Cost Plus, Firm Fixed Price, and Time & Materials contracts experience
Experience with and preparation of incurred cost submissions and forward pricing rates
Experience with Costpoint and Deltek product suite
Financial Statement preparation experience
CPA license or MBA a plus
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Normal office environment
Core operating hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand
Domestic travel may be required as duties demand.
