About the job:
The Auditor of State (AOS) is the state’s Chief Financial Officer. The four primary duties of the Office include accounting for all of the State’s funds; overseeing and disbursing county, city, town and school tax collections; paying the state’s vendors, and paying state employees. The AOS is also the Plan Administrator for the State of Indiana Deferred Compensation Plan.

The IT Director for the Auditor of State manages a team of professionals that include PeopleSoft application specialists, business analysts and data operators.

The AOS seeks a candidate to provide leadership, direction and initiative for statewide and agency wide projects and 24 X 5 data center operations. The role requires strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with other state agencies.

A day in the life:
The duties of the AOS IT Director include, but are not limited to the following:

Manage the development of programs that integrate information technology and resources in support of the AOS mission
Coordinate the planning, implementation, and operational support of computer hardware, software, and networks dedicated to the office and external agencies
Provide management and strategic planning of the AOS computing environment
Coordinate and prioritize projects with other departments or agencies within the State
Develop IT disaster recovery and continuity planning and testing
Work “hands on” completing assigned projects for internal and external stakeholders
Evaluate, recommend, and implement software/hardware systems
Monitor IT design, implementation, maintenance, and support contracts for relevance, compliance, and renewal
Troubleshoot system application failures and provide proposed solutions for resolution and ongoing enhancements
Complete projects by coordinating resources and timetables with user departments and the AOS and IOT data centers
Analyze complex business needs presented by the user community and/or clients and recommend technical solutions
Seek internal and external stakeholder input and consensus regarding significant initiatives

What we are looking for:
We are looking for an individual with strong leadership and creative problem-solving skills. He/She will need the ability to plan, initiate, and properly execute programs and initiatives and possesses the skill to coordinate and prioritize tasks for staff, utilizing sound management principles.

Management style that demonstrates and promotes collaboration, courtesy, and effective communications
Must be able to conceptualize and envision the impact of change and propose new ways to do business more efficiently and aligned with the best customer service practices
Ability to meet deadlines, multi-task, problem solve, and use appropriate technology to analyze business problems
Knowledge of running a data center with an ERP system
Ability to participate in user requirements definition, and application design within the PeopleSoft program
Incumbent must possess a broad knowledge of the principles, theories and practices of a recognized profession, developed through a baccalaureate or higher education plus relevant experience and training
The incumbent will have extensive and consequential contribution involving support, development, or recommendations of major objectives, policies, programs, or practices
Previous management experience preferred
Experience using Agile Development Methodologies
