I. SUMMARY STATEMENT
Network Engineer 3 is responsible for design, configuration, installation, maintenance and support of the network infrastructure. Performs a variety of evaluation, maintenance, installation, and training tasks to ensure computer network functionality and performance levels meet business requirements and user satisfaction. Provides direction, information, and recommendations regarding network expansions, configurations and installations. Responsible for providing network design guidance to application development teams. Manages data LAN and WAN networks, typically performs a variety of design, evaluation, implementation, and training tasks to enable applications and users to maximize productivity.
Reports to Manager, Network and Telecom
III. PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Network Design :
Designs, documents and implements LAN/WAN and Wireless networks. Design networks and network expansions around volume and capacity demands while taking into account scalability, security and stability.
Design, setup, and configure complex switching environments and wireless networks that support open or secured access and the ability to support voice and video applications.
Responsible for network design of multi-server environments.
QoS and network optimization to ensure high priority traffic and applications perform within service level requirements.
Network Support :
Provides troubleshooting support to Network Support Engineers.
Provide support and direction, as it relates to the network architecture and functions, to software development teams to enable them to successfully deploy their solutions.
Provide Tier 2 and 3 support for DNS, User Web Proxy, and Load Balancer environments.
Respond to inquiries from staff, administration, service providers, site personnel, and outside vendors to provide technical assistance and support.
Configuration Maintenance :
Performs routine configuration changes to support business functions and keeps network equipment current with stable firmware.
Maintains existing documentation for network configurations, topologies, events, incidents, problems, and service disruptions.
Maintains Network Integrity : Understands the interaction between applications and the network to provide optimum performance.
Security : Plans and implements network security, including firewall systems, VPN systems, and remote access solutions.
Update network devices with the latest patches to remediate vulnerabilities.
Ensure network devices are configured to defined standards.
Collaborates with other teams :
Works closely with other Infrastructure and Service Management teams as well as Information Security.
Provide leadership and oversight to the Infrastructure teams.
IV. SKILLS, EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
College degree or equivalent experience
5+ years of expertise in implementing, administering, and troubleshooting network infrastructure devices, including routers, switches, wireless access points and controllers, firewalls, and monitoring applications
Superior skills in Cisco IOS and Cisco NX-OS / Routing and Switching / Data Center
Familiar with a variety of the networking concepts, practices, and procedures related to LANs, WANs, Data Center, Wireless, and QoS
Experience configuring and troubleshooting routing protocols such as EIGRP and BGP.
Prefer experience with AWS, Network Automation
CCNA Certification Required
CCDA and CCNP Certification Preferred
Knowledge of TCP/IP stack and protocols
Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose network problems
Ability to maintain and implement new networking technology
Excellent diagramming skills
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment, both independently and collaboratively.
