Essential Functions of the Kennel Technician Position:
- Care for, feed, and monitor animals in the facility.
- Report observed health or behavior issues to the department or general manager.
- Clean assigned areas on a daily basis.
- Maintained assigned equipment and supplies in safe conditions and report any problems or needed repairs to the department manager.
- Additional tasks that may be assigned by the department manager or general management staff.
Typical Problems this Position may face:
- Dealing with fractious animals.
- Customer service issues (unhappy or emotional pet parent[s])
- Exposure to animal odors, diseases, possible contagious conditions, bites, scratches and moderate noise levels.
- Managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
Major Responsibilities:
- Monitor and care for animals within the facility.
- Proper cleaning and disinfection of assigned areas.
- Provide excellent customer care and focus.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities Needed to Perform Essential Functions of this Position:
- Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions, animal handling and behavior.
- Ability to handle animals safely and with patience and gentleness.
- Ability to represent North Star Animal Hospital & Center in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers and staff.
- Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships within the North Star
Animal Hospital & Center organization to include staff, volunteers, the public and be a team player.
- Must be patient, courteous and work well under stressful conditions.
- Must be detail oriented and have strong time management skills.
- Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs, policies and procedures.
