The Affiliate Financial Analyst I contributes to a cross-functional Komen Affiliate resource team. Consults with and supports Affiliates moving from a simple organizational structure to a moderately complex structure that will require assistance with maintaining a proper financial structure during growth and increased interaction with Board and Affiliate Staff to ensure their fiduciary soundness. Manages financial matters including follow-up and proactive communication for approximately 10-14 Affiliates. Performs duties including but not limited to, ensuring that financial activities comply with GAAP and IRS guidelines, collaborates with team to develop and implement Affiliate support plans, reviews and reconciles financial information, creates training and communication initiatives for Affiliates, and provides high level strategic analysis.
Serves as the financial point of contact for assigned Affiliates.
Serves as a proactive resource to Affiliates to identify, plan, and transition through critical junctures in an Affiliate organization’s development. Ensures that Affiliate accounting records adhere to GAAP and IRS requirements and stay within Komen guidelines.
Performs financial analysis on a monthly basis and during year end of Financials through a thorough review of financial statements and preparation and/or review of balance sheet reconciliations, Grants Roll-forward, Restricted Revenues schedule, 90 Day Event reconciliations, Fund Balance template, year-end schedules, etc. to ensure all financial activity is properly accounted for according to GAAP.
Prepare, submit, and review journal entries in PeopleSoft for monthly and yearly close.
If necessary collaborates as a core member of a team of cross-functional professionals to develop and implement a support plan that is customized to bring the respective Affiliate into compliance with Komen Operating Guidelines.
Prepares and analyzes audit schedules for internal and external audits.
Assists with schedule preparation for information contained in consolidated financial statements and the Group 990 and reviews Mock 990 for reasonableness.
Prepares upon request historical financial information for management, Affiliates, and the Affiliate Network.
Assists Affiliate with budget planning and preparation and Consults with managers, regional directors, and Affiliates regarding budget variances and problem resolution in moderately difficult situations.
Assist in preparations of training materials for Affiliates including creating, presenting and/or recording of PowerPoint presentations.
Assesses the current operating status of assigned Affiliates in relationship to financial management. Discovers and identifies problem areas. Provides issues resolution and training for Affiliates to improve financial management. Secures and shares information, researches issues and utilizes problem-solving techniques to propose resolutions. Influences and guides Affiliates in financial related decision-making processes.
Identifies, recommends and follows through on implementation of changes to financial related processes, training tools, curriculum, policies and procedures. May be responsible for participating in development and/or presentation of training initiatives. In conjunction with assigned Affiliate team members, prepares and provides management with regular status reports relative to the progress against the plan for each Affiliate.
Seeks continuous professional development by attending internal and external training, reviewing trade/industry updates, and performing research as needed.
Prioritizes and manages time sufficiently to accomplish all required duties by the determined deadlines.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Experience Required
The successful candidate will have 3-5 years of direct experience, with knowledge of MS Office products, including advanced skills in Excel spreadsheets. Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Solid analytical skills with the ability to identify, analyze, and determine root causes of problems and implications of financial and business activities in moderately complex Affiliate organizations. Must model the ability to influence, educate, and motivate a diverse group of people. Solid written and verbal communications skills required, with polished presentation skills. Willingness to take personal responsibility for the outcomes resulting from his/her judgment, recommendations, and solutions.
Not-for-profit accounting experience. Proven ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people.
Specialized Knowledge Requirements
Requires technical skills and business acumen typical for those with 3-5 years of business/financial analysis experience in moderately complex organizations or organizations in a growth mode. Also requires a customer service focus to assist with problem resolution.
