PenFed is hiring an Ops Twelve-Hour Shift Supervisor in Chantilly, Virginia. The primary purpose of this job is to supervise the operation of a 24x7 large scale, multi-platform computer complex during a 12 hour shift, including holidays and weekends. This role will support business operations at the main and backup datacenters, as well as support remote locations at worldwide PenFed branch offices.

Essential Functions

Provide computer software and equipment assistance and support to the PenFed organization both internal and external.
Provide guidance and direction while ensuring efficient and continuous processing of all systems, being consistent with department and command center operations procedures.
Monitor production system execution making sure that schedules are met and exceptions are handled according to procedure.
Analyze, troubleshoot and evaluate computer network problems related to all PenFed front-end applications and member facing applications such as local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs) and Internet systems.
Coordinate changes to vendors and external businesses maintaining open lines of communication for maintenance and updates scheduling, informing customers when a site is down for maintenance.
Perform basic network and server troubleshooting functions to remedy outage incidents using System/Network/Application production environment monitoring tools such as Tivoli/ Solarwinds.
Continuously run job control language to maintain consistency, monitor the automated scheduling systems that run on a 24/7 basis ensuring that updates are completed successfully.
Monitor the PenFed mainframe and physical infrastructure of the data center; perform readings on HVAC systems, and data center room equipment.
Conduct weekend maintenance on the server and conduct validations.
Resolve JCL and scheduling problems as needed to help the business continue smooth operations.
Perform SEV1 incident management escalation and response to incidents, manage mainframe console, ensuring batch job execution as well as backup and restore procedures are followed.
Utilize various IT infrastructure tools and applications to monitor the environment for unplanned systems events and incidents. Act in accordance with pre-defined procedures to avoid or minimize business impact when unplanned incidents or events occur.
Submit processing per run-logs, automated schedules and procedures, monitor processing for successful completion.
Lead the shift in the absence of the Shift Supervisor to ensure that department practices regarding user transactions, operations requests, data center facility issues and vendor notifications are properly followed. Update department procedure documents as needed and provides oversight and technical supervision for staff.
This position is considered Essential Personnel and will be expected to be on call as needed.

Education and Experience

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

B.S. Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience is preferred.
Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years in working in an Enterprise IT Operations environment preferred. Minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience.
Strong Experience with Windows, UNIX, Linux servers and operating systems, server reboots Stop / Start of Services, JCL and automated job scheduling system preferred. Knowledge of z/Os,Z/VM, and Z/Linux environments and commands syntax a plus, active directory and the ability to reset passwords, problem, change, and incident ticketing tool
Strong research, analytical and problem solving skills, planning, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
Experience working with network, servers and data communications hardware & software, knowledge of backup and recovery concepts, strategies, and procedures.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work weekends, holidays and various shifts as needed to meet staffing requirements.
Possess in-depth knowledge of JCL and automated scheduling system, research concerns and communicates findings to operations staff.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will supervise employees.

Licenses and Certifications

Preferred: ITIL training / certification
Plus: CompTIA A+, Network+, Server+, MCSE/A, CCWP

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

  • Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.
Travel

Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call may be required
