Job Purpose

The Investment Analyst conducts investment and economic research, administers investment portfolios, supports advisors on client related tasks, and performs compliance exercises. The Investment Analyst works closely with the Portfolio Manager and Chief Investment Officer to gather appropriate data and provide in-depth research of broad economic trends and various investment accounts. The role is also subject to constructing and monitoring portfolios, day-to-day trade operations, and structuring compliance records. The Investment Analyst is analytical, detail-oriented, and adaptable to ad-hoc tasks. The Investment Analyst also serves as the backup to the Portfolio Manager.

Primary Job Accountabilities/Responsibilities

Research:
  • Analyze mutual fund investments
  • Create agendas/compile data for investment meetings
  • Analyze prospects’ portfolios
  • Attend industry events/conferences
  • Maintain relationships with mutual fund representatives
  • Research and Prepare quarterly chart book
Portfolio Administration:
  • Execute portfolio trading including cash to invest, cash to raise, quarterly portfolio rebalances, etc.
  • Maintain cash management targets
  • Monitor realized gains
  • Review quarterly portfolio reports
  • Monitor and report on portfolio characteristics
  • Monitor portfolio positions compared to targets
  • Prepare weekly portfolio performance
  • Recommend tax-loss strategies
  • Monitor and analyze mutual fund distributions
  • Adhere to client specific investment restrictions
Client Tasks:
  • Support advisors by responding to client inquiries
  • Provide assets held away recommendations
  • Provide recommendations for 529 plans
  • Analyze one-off investments
  • Review Investment Policy Statements
  • Recommend securities for donor advised fund contributions
Compliance:
  • Compile Schedule 13-F filing
  • Conduct portfolio performance audit
  • Document quarterly portfolio reviews
  • Review transaction ledger and trade tickets
  • Review trades for best price execution
  • Save trade files and create allocation spreadsheets
Back-up:
  • Serve as back-up to the Portfolio Manager

Experience and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, business management, accounting, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience (2+ yrs) in financial services or preferably an analytical role
Skills and Knowledge
  • Knowledge of the global economy, financial markets, numerous investment vehicles, monetary and fiscal policy, and financial statements analysis
  • Strong analytical skills and independent thinking
  • Knowledge of security trading strategies
  • Proficiency with or ability and willingness to learn CRM, Portfolio Center, Bloomberg terminal, and Tamarac Advisor Rebalancing,
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Presentation and writing abilities are essential to support recommendations to management.
