Position Title: K-2 District Instructional Coach FLSA Status: Exempt
Responsible to: Superintendent of Schools / K-2 Building Principals
Coaches: K-2 Teachers, Instructional Assistants, Title 1 Interventionist
Evaluated by: Building Principal or Assistant Superintendent
Terms of Employment: 185 days (additional days as needed)
Evaluation Period:

Formative evaluations throughout the school year as per corporation evaluation procedures.

Annual summative evaluation prior to July 1.
Purpose of the Position:
-
Analyze literacy and math assessment data to select targeted interventions and trainings for certified staff and instructional assistants.
-
Coordinate schedule for intervention groups to support students in literacy and Math.
-
Deliver high-quality professional development to teachers and instructional assistants that will produce measurable results of student learning and achievement.
Minimum Requirements (the following qualifications are the minimum requirements necessary for a person to perform this job):
-
3+ years of successful classroom teaching experience.
-
Valid Indiana Teaching License.
-
Strong organizational and leadership skills.
-
Excellent communication skills - both oral and written.
-
Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills.
Essential Functions of the Position (the following functions have been determined by Blackford County Schools to be essential to the successful performance of this position):
-
Evaluate the Reading, English Language Arts, and Math programs in order to develop strategies for implementation with the intent of improving teacher and student achievement.
-
Assist with articulating, modifying, and improving reading, English Language Arts and Math curriculums.
-
Assist principal(s) in developing school literacy improvement plans/reading plans.
-
Work with school principals to create a school-wide focus on goals for reading and Math achievement.
-
Develop long-range literacy professional development plan(s) for building and staff.
-
Lead selected professional development trainings for teachers and/or instructional assistants.
-
Guide and assist teachers in the collection and analyzation of data; developing action plans in response to determined student and staff needs.
-
Provide individualized, classroom-based support to implement and improve comprehensive programming including, but not limited to the modeling of best teaching practices.
-
Oversee the school’s assessment procedures, professional development trainings, and data collection processes; collaborating with the principal to complete reports due, as needed.
-
Participate fully in professional development opportunities and professional research and reading.

Research and provide information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative literacy and Math pedagogical practices through various activities such as:
-
individual discussions (informal and formal);
-
coaching sessions;
-
demonstration lessons with pre-and post-discussion/analysis;
-
study groups;
-
staff meetings; and
-
professional development
-
Work with identified struggling readers in small groups or 1-1 sessions.

Maintain paperwork consistently, appropriately, and in a timely manner.
-
Maintain the confidentiality of all school-related stakeholders.

Coordinate/facilitate instructional material pilots and implementations (including software), as needed.
Secondary Functions of the Position (the following functions, while important and necessary to the position, have been determined by Blackford County Schools to be marginal to the successful performance of this position):

Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed or as directed by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or building Principals.
