Looking for a fluent Spanish speaking clinical research assistant with interest in health and/or child psychology for a part-time paid position, 12 hours a week. Become part of a clinical research team, under the supervision of Dr. Maureen E. Lyon, at Children’s National Health System in Washington, DC. Assist with an American Cancer Society funded study adapting an evidence based intervention on advance care planning for Spanish Speaking adolescents living with cancer and their families.
12 hours a week, permanent part-time from December 1, 2019-December 30, 2020. Research Intern, 12 hours a week on American Cancer Society cost center.
RA needs to be flexible with occasional evenings and Saturdays until data collection are completed.
Must be fluent in Spanish and culturally sensitive around adolescents with cancer and their families who are Spanish speaking.
RA will contact the PI, Dr. Lyon, as needed for problem solving.
RA will be responsible for the recruitment of research participants.
RA will complete study assessments in REDCap data base with both adolescents and families.
RA will manage day-to-day activities, such as subject recruitment, scheduling rooms for the baseline and follow-up assessments.
For the Research Study:
Complete certification to be a translator in Spanish at Children’s National, not required, but a plus.
Complete Human Subjects Protection & Continuing Education as required
Until these responsibilities are completed within the first 3 months of employment, this position is provisional.
Competence, including speed and accuracy, in Power Point and Microsoft Word, as well as checking citations on internet for accuracy
Ability to attend to details
Additional recommended qualifications:
- Reliable transportation/willingness to travel to metro area study sites
- Evening and weekend hours for phone calls, as needed by patients and families
- Prior experience in clinical human subjects’ research
- Experience using statistical software (e.g. Microsoft Excel, SPSS)
- Experience working with adolescents with cancer and their families
