Description
The City of Chandler Police Department is currently seeking qualified individuals to fill the full-time positions of EMERGENCY CALL TAKER and DISPATCHER. The Chandler Police Communications Unit is open 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. These positions are required to work various schedules to include days, swings, nights, weekends and holidays.

A computer-based Emergency Call Taker/Dispatcher skills test will be administered at varying times, from January 14 through January 28, 2019. The first 200 qualified applicants will be invited to test. All additional applicants will be place on an eligibility list for future consideration.

EMERGENCY CALL TAKER starts at $19.33 per hour:
The Emergency Call Taker classification will answer emergency and non-emergency calls for police and fire using a multi-line telephone and 911 systems; route calls for fire and emergency medical services.

Minimum Qualifications for Emergency Call Taker:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency; and
  • One (1) year experience in a high volume data entry and customer service environment; and
  • Obtain and maintain the Arizona Criminal Justice Operator Certification within six (6) months of hire or promotion date.
DISPATCHER starts at $21.31 per hour:
The Dispatcher classification will answer emergency and non-emergency calls for police and fire using a multi-line telephone and 911 systems; route calls for fire and emergency medical services; dispatch calls to public safety officers.

Minimum Qualifications for Dispatcher:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency; and
  • Two (2) years' experience in a high volume data entry and customer service environment; and
  • Obtain and maintain the Arizona Criminal Justice Terminal Operator Certification within six months of hire or promotion date.
Hiring Process:
  • Public Safety Emergency Call Taker/Dispatcher Computerized Skills Test (scheduled for January 14 through January 28, 2019)
  • Oral Board Interview (tentatively scheduled for February 5 through February 7, 2019)
  • Background Review
  • Command Board Interview
  • Polygraph Examination
  • Psychological Examination
  • Police Chief Interview
The positions available are regular full-time positions and are subject to a one (1) year probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for six (6) months should another position become available.
