MIB has an immediate opportunity for a Vice President of Data, Insights, & Analytics
In this newly created role, you will have the opportunity to assess data and evaluate strategies to design and expand insights and analytics. MIB has established a strategic direction to enable data and analytics techniques to provide market insights and intelligence, inform tailored solutions to support customers, improve internal efficiencies, and address the needs of various stakeholders beyond our current underwriting capability. This will be supported by platforms you help design to deliver products and solutions seamlessly to MIB member companies and to internal staff. Working with the executive management team, the Vice President - Data, Insights and Analytics (aka VP of Data) will lead this strategic initiative.
This individual will be responsible for value creation from the use of the organization’s data assets, as well as the external data ecosystem. Responsibilities include data exploitation, envisioning data-enabled strategies as well as enabling all forms of business outcomes through analytics, data and analytics governance, and enterprise information policy. The VP of Data is the head of all enterprise analytics, directing analytics processes, and for using analytics to drive innovation and enterprise objectives. In addition, the VP of Data is responsible for building and maintaining a world-class data warehouse and business intelligence and analytics solutions, to support the enterprise’s growing demand for intelligent and insightful data, which also includes data retention policy and execution.
The VP of Data will work closely with the General Counsel to align data policy and administration with relevant regulatory, legal and ethical mandates. The VP of Data will also work closely with the CIO to directly shape the data and technical architecture. This individual will also work closely with the business to ensure data insights and decision making affecting analytics are in align with industry data needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Be the executive with authority, responsibility and accountability to exploit the value of enterprise information assets and the analytics used to render insights for decision making.
Working with the CIO, drive the development and deployment of the enterprise’s data and analytics platform, lead strategy and the development of data and analytics products.
Work with key business stakeholders and C-level executives, establish the vision to govern and create a culture that manages data as an enterprise asset.
Executive in charge of current data analytics functions including New York operations, the actuarial statistical group and production data quality for Underwriting Services.
Develop and obtain support of a data strategy and road map for the enterprise, initially focusing in the first 12 months on internal data analytics with a goal to making our operations more effective and efficient. In the first 12 months, begin to develop external strategy to expand MIB’s brand to include analytics capability and capacity.
Be the enterprise leader of data-driven insights that help support exploitation of strategic and tactical business opportunities, and be the champion for a data-driven, decision-making culture.
Innovate with and expand the enterprise’s research and analytic offerings – emerging analytic approaches, skills and technologies.
Working with business, identify new kinds, types and sources of data to drive business innovation throughout the enterprise. Define processes for the effective, integrated introduction of new data.
Working with the business, research and develop new data products or services to expand markets, monetize data and grow company revenue.
Develop the enterprise’s capacity to develop insights with advanced analytics. Recruit and develop data science competencies and resources for the corporate exploitation of data.
Partners with the CIO to scan the horizon for emerging management tools, skills, techniques and technologies, and ensure their timely introduction for competitive advantage.
Skills and Requirements:
15+ years of business experience, ideally in business management, legal, financial or data / information or IT management — recently at or near the executive level.
5+ years of progressive leadership experience in leading cross-functional, highly analytical and technical teams and enterprise wide programs, operating and influencing effectively across the organization and within complex contexts.
10+ years of experience in the data warehouse, ETL, business intelligence, analytics, or information management space.
Experience in integrating complex, cross-corporate processes and information strategies.
Strategy and management consulting experience desirable.
Excellent business acumen and interpersonal skills at all levels in the organization; able to work across business lines at senior levels to influence and effect change to achieve common goals.
Demonstrated leadership; proven track record of leading complex, multidisciplinary talent teams in new endeavors and delivering solutions.
Proven data literacy — the ability to describe business use cases/outcomes, data sources and management concepts, and analytical approaches/options. The ability to translate among the languages used by executive, business, IT and quant stakeholders.
Information strategy experience; experience in strategic technology planning and execution, and policy development and maintenance.
Analytical skills - outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Familiarity with business information generation and analysis methods.
Ability to effectively drive business, culture and technology change in a dynamic and complex operating environment.
Gravitas to develop a framework for information and analytics governance, as well as to sell and embed it in all levels of the business.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain digital concepts and technologies to business leaders, as well as business concepts to technologists; the ability to sell ideas and process internally at all levels, including the board and investors.
Proven record of effective leadership, including the ability to balance team and individual responsibilities; building teams and consensus; getting things done through others not directly under his/her supervision; working ethically and with integrity.
Broad experience required in multiple domain areas, such as data warehousing, business intelligence (BI), data governance, data architecture, data integration, data classification, data strategy, data quality management, data security and privacy, MDM, data standards, regulatory compliance, and enterprise architecture frameworks.
Experience with a variety of Data Integration/ETL tools like Informatica PowerCenter, ODI, InfoSphere, or SAP Data Integrator.
Experience with a variety of BI and Analytics platforms like Tableau, Qlik, OBIEE, Cognos, MicroStrategy, Business Objects, or Alteryx, and advanced statistical analysis tools like SAS or SSPS.
Experience with a variety of database management systems like Oracle, MySQL, Teradata, Netezza, SQL Server, or DB2.
Experience with Big Data and NoSQL technologies like Hadoop, HBase, Spark, Impala, Cassandra, Storm, Flume, Pig, or Hive.
Master’s degree preferred in business administration, computer science, data science, information science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
