The Mechanical Engineering Intern role is a 10 week Summer internship within the Mechanical Engineering department. This individual will work with experienced engineers and designers to define and solve problems, generate and explore new concepts, experiment, and document results and recommendations. They will have an opportunity to put their design and problem solving skills into practice in support of our vision of becoming the world’s most beloved brand by delivering an unparalleled sleep experience.
This position is responsible for supporting mechanical design engineering functions on new product development projects, with exposure to all stages of development from concept conception to commercialization.
Active participation in providing mechanical design engineering functions including drafting/modeling, design, testing, and analysis.
Work alongside peers to drive innovative design solutions.
Participate in product development activities and take direction from a senior level engineer or mechanical engineering manager.
Work alongside senior level engineer and other cross-functional team members to develop test methodologies to ensure that new product designs are verified and validated before product launch.
Timely, thorough, and accurate completion of engineering projects.
Experience, Education & Certifications:
Junior or Senior year college student majoring in mechanical engineering; and, currently participating in major-level courses
Knowledge, skills & abilities:

Ability to design and execute validation & verification tests.
Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings
Ability to conduct competitive evaluation and performance benchmarking of products, with input from engineers and technicians.
Excellent trouble-shooting skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Working knowledge of Pro/Engineer or comparable 3D CAD design software.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) suite of softwares.
Understand and apply principles, concepts, theories, technologies and standards of the Mechanical Engineering Field towards new product development.
Excellent problem solving skills, and practical application of strong mechanical design theory and analytical skills.
Working Conditions (if applicable):
Ability to work up to 40 hours per week (Full-Time).
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
While the Research and Development Team is flexible in accommodating interns’ class schedules, a weekly and daily fixed schedule is to be defined and adhered. Deviations from the schedule are to be handled on an as-needed basis, and clearly communicated with, and approved by, the manager prior to each event.
