JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

CNS is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II who conduct strength analysis for structural design for the launch vehicle upper stage. The strength analysis will include finite element analysis and hand calculations of components, small assemblies, and large assemblies. Finite element analysis will use NASTRAN/FEMAP. Familiarity with non-linear analysis and material plasticity using NASTRAN and ABAQUS. Knowledge of super-elements will aid in efficient non-linear analysis.

Need candidates with 5 years of experience. Must have 3+ yrs experience with Nastran/Femap. Prefer aerospace industry background.

There is a possibility for extension or conversion to support test and other internal programs, however neither is guaranteed.

Researches, designs and develops instruments, automation controls, engines, machines, mechanisms, hydraulics, heat transfer, cryogenic and ordnance components and systems that are used in the transmission, measurement and use of energy. Application of mechanical engineering principles to the planning, design, development and testing of mechanical systems.

Work Environment

Must be able to perform all assigned tasks in a safe manner. While performing the duties of this job, the worker may be exposed to repetitive motion injuries due to keyboarding or to cuts and bruises due to typical office accidents.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the worker is regularly required to use computer and office equipment and to use hands to type, manipulate, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms; talk; and hear. The worker frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The worker is occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The worker must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close –vision and ability to adjust focus.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5 years of engineering experience
  • 3 years of Nastran/Femap experience.
  • Aerospace industry preferred.
