About the Position: About the Position: This position is at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), Bethesda, MD, under the Director for Nursing, Department of Critical Care Nursing, Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), 4th floor of building 9A. Possible nights and weekend shifts, must be flexible with scheduling - at the needs of the mission. This is a high pace often physically demanding position.
Position is being filled using EHA - Critical Need Health Care Occupations.
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of nursing assistant procedures.
Utilize basic equipment (stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, pulse oximeter, etc.) to obtain and validate observations of the patient.
Obtain vital signs and recognize abnormal value ranges.
Assist nursing staff with patient care, patient movement, and patient observations.
Document pertinent information in patient?s chart utilizing computer charting systems (i.e., Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Essentris).
Monitor patient vital signs and clinical picture through telemetry, central monitoring, and bedside.
Caring for patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes in their vital signs and behavior.

This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position requires you to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical examination.
This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons.
This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as performing nursing assistant duties in an ICU high pace environment; such as: obtaining patient vital signs, serving meals, feeding patients, monitoring patients (i.e., by telemetry, central monitoring and bedside), answering patient calls, utilizing various electronic systems to document patient's chart (i.e. electronic medical record (EMR). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
Education: A 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation.
Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). (Note: You must provide a copy of your transcripts as part of your application package.)
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
