The Husbandry Technician will maintain and monitor the health and physical environment of nonhuman primates housed on the campus of PPLLC.
ESSENTIAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
1. Perform animal husbandry which includes feeding and watering the animals.
2. Monitor and record observations of animal well-being.
3. Maintain physical environment cleanliness and biosecurity.
4. Maintain accurate department/animal records.
5. Perform all work in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures.
6. Perform all work and machine operation in compliance with safety and ergonomic guidelines.
7. Complete other duties as required.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED is required.
Must have one year of satisfactory work experience.
Must have the ability to read, comprehend, and speak English effectively.
The math skills required include, but are not limited to: a working knowledge of basic math skills.
Must have the ability to follow instructions to completion.
Must have the ability to lift at least 50 lbs repetitively.
Must have the ability to tolerate working in hot, humid conditions while wearing PPE.
Must have the ability to crouch, stand, lift overhead repetitively.
The reasoning abilities required include, but are not limited to: the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables; the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form; and the ability to demonstrate attention to detail, especially when concerned with behavioral observations.
Training needs for this position may include general understanding of nonhuman primate behavior, general understanding of operant conditioning techniques, general understanding of environmental enrichment, and general understanding of the Guide and the Animal Welfare Act.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid state of Florida driver’s license is required. AALAS ALAT certification is preferred.
