General Description:

The Fitness Director provides day-to-day management of the Fitness Connection health programs and activities.

Work Experience


Three years’ experience supervising staff

  • One year experience with facility management
  • Presents a professional, corporate image


  • Three or more years’ experience supervising staff and managing the day-to-day operations of a fitness center.
  • Fitness center management experience

Education Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, sports management, or related area


  • Bachelor’s degree in health & fitness or exercise physiology with 6 or more semester hours of management and human resources courses

Performance Expectations

  • Ensures a high level of customer satisfaction by:
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating land and aquatic fitness programs
  • Identifying, training and monitoring effective staff members and providing meaningful performance feedback to employees
  • Recruiting, supporting, and overseeing contractors providing fitness programs
  • Interacting extensively with members, potential members, staff, YWCA management and others to maintain a real-time understanding of customer expectations and how the programs are currently meeting those expectations
  • Providing strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate with employees and members at all levels of the YWCA
  • Ensuring a safe, clean and pleasant environment for all fitness members
  • Developing and monitoring an effective risk management plan to ensure quality standards for safety and equipment
  • Preparing and monitoring the fitness center’s operating plan and budget
  • Keeping current with trends and issues affecting the health and fitness and incorporating state-of-the-art techniques and equipment into YWCA programs and facilities
  • Serves as an integral member of the Leadership Team by:
  • Developing and maintaining procedure and training manuals on all program operations and equipment
  • Participating in the hiring process for fitness positions and others as requested
  • Preparing and presenting summarized reports to YWCA management which accurately reflect the performance of the programs and fitness center
  • Communicating information clearly to YWCA management

Job Type: Full-time


  • Fitness Center Management: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Personnel Management: 3 years (Preferred)
