The Upper Main Line YMCA Environmental & STEM Education Complex in Berwyn seeks a self-motivated, flexible and responsible individual capable of guiding the daily operations of the exhibited animals. The Animal Technician position requires an experienced professional, possessing a wide variety of animal husbandry, training, volunteer supervision and public presentation experience. Animal Technicians are expected to be competent and reliable handlers of a wide variety of animals, including birds of prey, goats, sheep, chickens, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. Animal Technicians are an integral part of the education program, participating in animal presentations and working alongside other educators to provide a high-quality guest experience. Individuals must have the willingness and skills to contribute to a positive, teamwork focused culture.

This is a part-time animal technician position expected to work 12-14 hours per week.

BS in biology or related field preferred.
Two years experience working with wild/exotic animals, preferably in a zoological setting.
Bird of prey handling experience required.
Candidates must have excellent communication skills (written and oral) and public speaking experience to diverse-age audiences.
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team of both staff and volunteers.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel
Must be willing to work some holidays and weekends.
Must be in good physical condition – activities include bending, kneeling, standing, carrying and lifting up to 50 pounds.
