POSITION SUMMARY: The Business Development Manager has strong interpersonal and communication skills, a focus on organization, and enhanced multitasking abilities. B2B sales, marketing, and strategic analysis are important aspects of the position, along with exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to close deals. The ideal candidate has experience researching market trends, targeting relationships and using proven methods to develop our business strategy.

Research prospective accounts in targeted markets, pursue leads, and follow through to a successful agreement

Understand the target markets, including industry, company, project, company contacts and which market strategies can be used to attract clients

Collaborate with Engineering and Sales Teams to ensure that requirements are met

Maintain relationships with current clients and identify new prospects within the assigned area

Possess a strong understanding of our products, our competition in the industry and positioning

Follow the latest industry developments and stay up-to-date on corporate competitors

Other duties as assigned to promote optimal customer service

BA or BS Degree

Five to Ten years proven track record in business sales or related market

Excellent organizational skills, with emphasis on priorities and goal setting

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and Statistical Analysis software

Superior presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal

Technical skills required to understand and propose products or solutions by focusing on client requirements

Ability to communicate information, whether technical or non-technical to staff members and customers, in a clear and concise manner


Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical is required, with five to ten years of executive level sales experience. Experience within the motion control industry is preferred.


Travel requirements will be dependent on the specific projects and opportunities. Therefore, the Business Development Manager must be adaptable and flexible in meeting the travel requirements. It is estimated that travel will range between 30% and 70%. Overnight travel may be required. Must be willing and able to travel by all forms of transportation.


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, marketing plans, and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Accomplished English speaking and writing.


Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages.


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

SCOPE AND IMPACT OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The role of the Business Development Manager is vital to increased market penetration of defined accounts. The position interacts with a variety of internal and external personnel. The individual must be equally at ease when interfacing with company Presidents as with Project Engineers. This individual defines the customer’s image of Motion Solutions.

Interacts frequently with a variety of Motion Solutions personnel; such as Vice President of Sales, Marketing Managers, CFO, General Managers, Business Unit Managers, Sales Representatives, Application Engineers, etc.

From the customer perspective, must be able to establish relationships at the executive level, e.g., President, Vice President Procurement, Materials, Engineering as well as individual project based engineering personnel.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Sales time is roughly split equally between office and manufacturing environments. When visiting customer’s facilities, safety glasses and or noise protection requirements will be defined and enforced as with other customer personnel.

This is a full time position, working remotely in the Boston, Massachusetts area.
