Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for a Product Engineer.

The Hydrogen Energy Systems (HES) Product Engineer is responsible for providing a broad range of technical support and product development for projects, customers, operations and the HES business area. The role of the HES product engineer to drive product competitiveness and productivity within (Air Products) APCI via product sustaining and new product development activities though technical and work process knowledge and expertise. A high degree of team building, collaboration and influence is required.

Projects primarily involve automotive fueling stations, but the intent is also to support fueling of other equipment such as forklifts, aircraft, ships, etc.

Several automakers, most notably Toyota, Hyundai, and Honda, are introducing mass-market hydrogen fuel cell cars. These automakers are bringing new technology to market to meet emissions reduction targets mandated by regulations worldwide. These vehicles will need a widespread network of 700 bar (10000 psig) hydrogen fueling stations for successful consumer acceptance.

In addition to the hydrogen fueling stations, Air Products is also actively building the facilities required to produce, compress, and deliver the hydrogen required by these fuel stations. Air Products business plan is to generate revenue and profit by selling hydrogen fueling stations and by supplying hydrogen molecules to those stations for the long term. The automotive deployment, and its impact to hydrogen sales, is scaling very rapidly. It is expected that hydrogen sales to this market will continue to grow at an accelerated rate to meet this emerging market for the conceivable future.

Principal Accountabilities:
Implementation of product development programs, technical and economic evaluations, cost and schedule improvements, work process improvements and bid/project team support by implementing hydrogen fuel station products to meet customer requirements.
The role is also responsible for implementation of HES product life cycle cost reduction programs which address the cost of non-conformance
The person will interface with APCI marketing, commercial, technology, engineering, procurement and operations team members and key equipment suppliers.
Role and Responsibilities

The role is responsible to:
Develop HES Products to achieve specific business objectives using the integrated Product-Based Approach
Complete functional engineering requirements to support product development from product strategy through conceptual design to commercialization
Achieve reduction in the unit cost of hydrogen dispensed
Manage HES product development programs on-budget and on-schedule
Achieve reduction in the unit cost of hydrogen dispensed
Achieve low capital cost baseline
Support reliability improvement and maintenance cost reduction
Batch process fueling Simulation and station sizing for storage, compression, and process cooling.
Equipment specification, P&ID and design development
Develop construction and modularization strategy
Develop global sourcing strategies
Product life cycle cost improvements
The role is responsible for producing the following product deliverables:

Participation in Product Strategy Development
Position Papers - Technical/Economic Evaluations
Technical Risk Management Documents
Product Definition Documentation
Work Process Documentation
Product First-Time Engineering Documentation
Product Commercialization Documentation
Product Life Cycle Cost Documentation

Candidates should have a BS in Engineering with 3-8 years of experience.
The individual will bring experience and capability in functional engineering skills in one or more areas to include, machinery, vessel engineering, piping design, systems engineering, and process engineering
Experience in the following areas is preferred - HYCO technology, Product Engineering, Capital Project Engineering, Project Development Engineering and CI capabilities.
The successful candidate will have strong combination of commercial acumen and product engineering innovation to drive the correct balance between product cost reduction and performance.
The product engineer should have good team building, communication and influencing skills as the product engineer interfaces with APCI marketing, commercial, engineering, procurement and operations and other key suppliers.
The individual should be able to collaborate and interface across many APCI managers and functional groups, chair product stage gate review meetings and support the bid/project teams to complete product deployment, first-time engineering and commercialization.
