Overall Objective: The Tractor Mechanic will be responsible for all aspects of proper preventative maintenance and repair practices in a timely manner. This will include the ability to trouble shoot and repair electrical systems, brake systems, tire repairs, and to identify potential warranty items when applicable. The Tractor Mechanic understands all aspects of DOT Safety inspections and Navajo preventative maintenance procedures.
Working Relationship: Reports to Tractor Shop Lead Mechanic and Shop Supervisor
Reports Generated: Must be able to completely and accurately fill out repair orders and EMS System entry, correctly tagging parts for warranty collection
Responsibilities:
· Perform work as outlined in repair order with efficiency and accuracy
· Diagnose cause of malfunction and perform needed repair
· Communicate with Parts Department to obtain needed parts or supplies
· Save and tag parts for warranty collection
· Advise Lead Mechanic or Shop Supervisor if additional work is needed, if work on repair order is not needed, or if job will take longer than expected
· Document all work performed
· Journeymen mechanics are expected to help train apprentices. A level of productivity and accounting for hours worked must be above 90%.
· Maintaining and helping to improve a safe and clean work area while assisting with the clean-up of the entire shop area is expected.
· Proper input of repair order information into the Equipment Maintenance System (EMS) 100% of the time is critical to properly track preventative maintenance and repair information. Proper input of the 3 C’s (complaint, cause, and correction) is necessary for warranty recovery. All warranty parts must be properly tagged with all information supplied.
· Identify and prioritize training requirements for all Navajo tractor technicians. Bring to the attention of the Shop Supervisor or Lead Mechanic training opportunities to aid in overall quality of work.
Education: High School or equivalent, technical school is a plus
Training or Skills Needed: 4 years of more of proven preventative maintenance and repair experience, must possess own tools
Summary: The Tractor Mechanic must be able to work independently, stay on focus, and be able to perform all functions in the ability to diagnose and repair the assigned unit. Must be detail oriented to perform each job timely and safely while considering all applicable rules and regulations set forth by Navajo Express and any applicable Governmental Agency. The journeyman mechanic should always be looking for opportunities to recover parts or labor under warranty, and to communicate with the Lead Mechanic or Shop Supervisor of any issues immediately.
