ROLE SUMMARY

The Cancer Immunology Discovery (CID) unit in Pfizer, Inc (San Diego, CA) is recruiting a Flow Cytometry Specialist to assist in the daily operation of CIDs Flow Cytometry Core Facility. The aim of the Flow Cytometry Core Facility is to facilitate and help advance the scope and quality of Cancer Research at CID by providing investigators advanced instrumentation and high-level technical and scientific expertise in multi-dimensional Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting. The Flow Cytometry Specialist supports core facility staff and provides assistance in the overall workflow including calibration, operation, and maintenance of all core instruments.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for optimizing and improving flow cytometry operations.
Perform routine technical troubleshooting of flow cytometry instruments and assays.
Provide technical and scientific support to researchers in operating analyzers and Flow Analysis software.
Perform daily startup and shutdown of flow instrumentation.
Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of flow instrumentation.
Perform Quality Control in all Cell Sorters, Analyzers and other required instrumentation.
Perform some Administrative duties.
Assist in Research and Development programs coordinated by senior staff, and learn how to coordinate these programs independently.
Assists with training for flow cytometry staff for new and existing assays.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
MS in biological science or related field with 5+ years of experience, BS in biological science or related field with 6+ years of experience.
1+ year experience in flow cytometry techniques and principles of operation.
Experience preparing samples autonomously for flow cytometry, demonstrable proficiency at data acquisition/analysis of samples.
Proficiency/autonomous operation of BD analyzers and FACSDiva platforms.
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with all employees and clients, while having attention to detail.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 1 year experience in a core facility environment.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires constant adjusting focus, touching/feeling, keying, grasping, talking, hearing, handling, reading, writing, calculating, reasoning, analyzing and communicating.
Must be willing to work in an animal-related research environment.
Must be willing to work in a biohazardous environment (BSL-2).
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Due to the nature of many research projects, the candidate must be flexible with hours and may be asked to work shifts outside of the standard 8:30-5 work day.
