Diagnoses and treats patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. Provides professional services related to diagnosis and treatment of inmate/patients. Insures that appropriate mental health care is accessible and provided to the inmate population in a timely fashion, regardless of segregation status. Renders judgment regarding care provided to inmates assigned to the unit according to TTUHSC Correctional Health Services Policies and Procedures, TDCJ Policies and Procedures, and National Commission on Correctional Health Care Standards. Works under general direction of the Unit Medical Director, with wide latitude to exercise initiative and independent judgment.

Performs duties as psychiatrist at all units when needed to meet contractual obligations and accreditation standards either on-site or by telepsychiatry clinics.
Takes regional call to ensure there is continuous psychiatric coverage within the TTUHSC sector.
Will meet the minimum proficiency requirements for Electronic Medical Records (EMR).

Minimum Hire Rate
Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected.
Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or styles. Skill in organizing, planning and directing psychiatric services. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Organizes data concerning patient's family, medical history, and onset of symptoms obtained from patient, relatives and other sources such as Correctional Nurse and Correctional Asocial Workers. Examines or refers patient to determine general physical condition. Orders laboratory and other special diagnostic tests and evaluates data obtained. Determines nature and extent of mental disorder, and formulates treatment program. Treats or directs treatment of patient, utilizing variety of psychotherapeutic methods and medications. Computer skills.
2-4 years experience preferred in a clinical setting. To perform this job successfully, electronic medical record experience is preferred.
