Seeking a Power Distribution Engineer for a major global high volume manufacturer in the automotive industry in a city with a population of 50,000 conveniently located only 40 minutes east of the State Capitol of Raleigh, NC. This position is a blend of Electrical Engineering and Project Engineering for the Power Distribution part of the manufacturing plant. They are seeking a Power Distribution Engineer that is energetic, likes working on the plant floor a good deal of the time, is hands-on and dosen't mind getting his/her hands dirty from time to time. This Engineer will know how to prioritize projects to manage the project load, and has a strong Electrical Engineering and Project Management background.
The Power Distribution Engineer will assist in the development, implementation and support of current and future power distribution systems throughout this very large manufacturing plant. Lead projects including planning, design, construction and maintenance of the plant's power distribution systems. Use your strong project management skills with high (69 kV) and medium (2300 to 4160 v) voltage distribution systems. PLC programming skills are required along with experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, and Power Distribution equipment. Design and manage major projects including new equipment installation and upgrades with projects ranging from $100K to $5M. Analyze project requirements, identify and address design parameters, review engineering challenges and ensure solutions are timely and within budget. Manage external contractors on installations and maintenance. Lead the site electrical safety program, maintaining the site arc flash study, providing technical guidance on electrical safe work practices and training personnel on electrical safety. Create design specifications along with completed documentation. Design and troubleshoot high/medium voltage electrical distribution systems with electrical distribution equipment, switchgear, distribution transformers, protective relays, motor control centers, adjustable speed drives and industrial lighting. Give technical guidance on electrical design and installation for maintenance and production equipment capital projects. Work with electrical, software design for automation and safety systems. Maintain project scope/schedule and identify scope creep. Create training documents, program backup, network diagrams and electrical drawings.
BS degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 2 - 3 years of job related experience; 5 years experience is ideal. Design of electrical control system knowledge for automated equipment. A strong knowledge of industrial controls and electrical systems. An understanding of electrical requirements and machine safety standards. Must be a strong technical hands-on engineer with demonstrated experience and a track record of deploying modern power systems. Experience with power quality management and 480/4160V equipment energy optimization. An understanding of industry trends, direction and standards that guide new technology offerings, and uses technology and market intellegence to provide strategic recommendations to achieve objectives. Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge. Exceptional problem solving skills, able to work independently in a high output manufacturing environment.
Preferred: Skills/experience in writing/developing/programming PLCs and controls design. Experience with specifiying, installing, start-up, and operation of A/C inverter drives and D/C drives including Allen-Bradley (PLC 2 and 5, Control Logix), Mitsubishi, Siemens, and General Electric. A working knowlege of Ethernet power distribution equipment, including sizing transformers, electrical feeders and distribution gear from 120 up to 13,800 volts.
