We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Manager.
Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Nursing and the Administrative and Medical Directors of the Clinical Trials Office (CTO), the Oncology Clinical Research Nurse Manager provides consistent leadership and oversight of the daily activities of the CTO Clinical Coordination Unit, ensuring adherence to standardized practices compliant with all institutional and regulatory requirements.. The Oncology Clinical Research Nurse Manager is responsible for managing and continuously evaluating a comprehensive onboarding and training program to ensure the ongoing development of Oncology Clinical Research Nurses and Clinical Research Coordinators involved in the conduct of both therapeutic and non therapeutic clinical research. Responsible for the day to day operations of the unit, supervision of research nurses and clinical research coordinators. Ensures all CCU staff maintain good quality source documentation according to ICH-GCP guidelines while satisfying HIPAA and patient rights, rules and regulations. Creates and communicates new and amended standard operating procedures to staff under the supervision of the Snr. Director of Nursing, the CTO Medical and Administrative Directors, and the Deputy Director of the Perlmutter Cancer Center. Conveys a positive and professional image and represents the clinic in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner.
The principle responsibilities of this position include the onboarding, training, and ongoing supervision and development of Clinical Research Nurses and Clinical Research Coordinators assisting Principal Investigators in the conduct of oncology therapeutic and non therapeutic clinical research. The management of a comprehensive onboarding, orientation and ongoing training program for the CTO Clinical Coordination Unit to ensure the retention of staff. Collaboration with PCC and CTO leadership in identifying, addressing, & utilizing available resources to meet the learning needs of the research staff. Evaluation and presentation on the progress of the orientation program on a regular basis. Provides coaching and retraining as necessary and may interact with the Employee Relations department when necessary.
Participates in the CTO Oversight Committee meetings.
Creates and maintains standard operating procedures under supervision of CTO and PCC leadership. Participates in monthly SOP review meetings. Ensures CCU staff are trained on and adherent to current approved institutional and departmental SOPs.
Effectively communicates (written & oral) across the organization. Communicates and escalates unresolved issues at the appropriate time to the appropriate level of management. Communicates significant issues to leadership, seeks consultation & assistance when indicated, reports to Snr. Nurse Manager & Administrative and Medical Directors of the CTO as indicated.
Ensures high quality source documentation is provided to the Data Coordination Unit according to ICH-GCP guidelines and provides recommendations for corrective action when necessary.
Provides coverage as needed for Research Nurses and Clinical Coordinators.
Collaborates with the Senior Director of Nursing, Administrative and Medical Directors of the CTO to manage and document performance improvement projects including the support of departmental implementation of new technology impacting the clinical operations of the CTO.
Collaborates with human resources to provide counseling or performance improvement of staff as needed. Responsible for tracking the current status of certifications and any required competencies.
Manages and leads staff to develop collaborative working relationships within the cancer center and with other departments as applicable. Acts as a liaison with the Epic team, investigational pharmacy, Disease Management Group faculty leaders, labs, and other units of the Clinical Trials Office in an effort to maintain efficient operations of the CCU.
Conducts regular staff meetings with CCU staff ensuring they receive important communications and are continuously trained on any new processes or procedures applicable to their roles. Functions as a respected member of the research team. Ensures pertinent communication with clinical research staff issues.
Provides clinical leadership by assessing, implementing, & evaluating the care provided to patients & families by CCU staff.
Acts as a professional role model to all levels of research staff by incorporating expertise, critical thinking, & related experience in all research aspects in the care of patients & families.
Assumes responsibilities for clinical operations for oncology clinical research, collaborating with PCC and CTO leadership.
Provides direct patient care, if needed, to support clinical operations of the research team.
Demonstrates awareness & recognition of the daily clinical plan of care. Ensures & participates in providing ongoing education consistent with the individual needs of the staff.
Assists in facilitating a collaborative interdisciplinary approach to achieve optimal research related outcomes. Supports the mission, philosophy, standards, goals, & objectives of NYULMC, Ambulatory Care Center, Perlmutter Cancer Center, & the CTO.
Serves as a role model to staff in considering needs & behaviors of specific patient & cultural groups.
Participates in study audits, in conjunction with industry or regulatory representatives.
Collaborates with other research team members working on multi-site studies across the US via list serves and phone contacts.
Evaluates orientation for new staff, trains/mentors, identifies educational needs, and coordinates in-services. Provides in-service education to staff members.
Participates in the development, promulgation, & implementation of the CTO process standards for delivery of care within research environment.
Assists with scheduling staff for optimal availability of resources, evaluating acuity of each service, suggesting adjustments as needed. Provides leadership for coordination of daily clinical research activity.
Guides, develops, & counsels staff regarding practice & performance standards. Participates in the implementation of staff improvement plans. Provides input to & participates in informal & formal review of performance standards of clinical research staff.
Facilitates attendance & participation by staff in educational offerings. Evaluates the effectiveness of the education & development activities in achieving desired outcomes.
Fosters an environment that promotes patient, family, physician, & staff satisfaction, & communicates issues & concerns to Snr. Nurse Manager.
Maintains awareness of research protocols, ensures knowledge of staff, protects patient rights, & participates in assessment & evaluation of outcomes. Participates in protocol feasibility process, to ensure availability of resources in order to fully execute trial.
Acts as a liaison to infusion nursing, investigational pharmacy, and laboratory as needed to ensure effective clinical operations for the conduct of cancer clinical research.
Performs other duties as assigned.
To qualify you must have a Bachelors Degree in Nursing.
Licensure as Registered Professional Nurse in NY State with current registration.
Must have worked in clinical research for three years.
5+ years of relevant work in a health care or clinical setting
3 years oncology nursing experience
3 years clinical research experience

Demonstrates strong communication and collaboration skills to foster an effective partnership with faculty, staff and both internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrates a high level of knowledge in oncology and clinical research and utilizes advanced leadership skills to meet the Perlmutter Cancer Centers Clinical Trials Offices mission.
Commitment to team problem solving approach using a research and patient-focused model.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
Organizational skills both to function independently and as a member of a professional team
Ability to read, understand, and follow written and oral instruction

Basic computer skills including the use of EMR and/or scheduling software
Ability to work with diverse groups of people
Is an active member OR is working toward the Oncology Nursing Society and ARC: Association of ARC, CCRC, OCN certification, CCRP or CCRC professional certification.
3 years clinical research experience in an oncology setting preferred
Experience in change management, creative leadership and program development preferred.
