The Microbial Field Scientist is responsible for managing and directing the company's applications development, customer demonstrations, technical questions, troubleshooting customer results, the identification of new product/application opportunities and the incoming QC testing on the consumable products. The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all technical work generated meets the company's procedures and standards of quality
Provide pre and post sales technical support in the way of system demonstrations, customer sample analysis and protocol development, seminars and general technical support and troubleshooting.
Provide routine tracking and monitoring of media production and consumable QC testing when transferred from R&D.
In conjunction with the Director of Technical Services and the R&D Department, drive the continuous improvement of the company's existing technology and Applications while also supporting the development of new technological and/or product innovations with market feedback.
In conjunction with the Director of Technical Services, Marketing and Sales, prepare and deliver training materials for internal staff and customers.
Have and maintain connections to thought leaders, consultants and regulatory agencies within the pharmaceutical market as a source of market intelligence, brand image development and regulatory change awareness.
Provide leadership and direction for planning, organizing, developing and integrating the technical efforts, including establishment, execution and reporting of departmental systems, goals, schedules and budgets.
An advanced degree in microbiology, or related science degree and at least five years of related experience in a relevant environment. A PhD is preferred.
Experience with automation and imaging systems is a real plus.
Excellent problem solving skills; the ability to analyze customer problems and develop experiments to draw conclusions on the problem resolution.
The ability to think outside the box would be a useful trait.
Experience with the manufacture of biological products including aseptic processing techniques is beneficial.
Knowledge/experience in disposable plastics technology and products
Experience with ISO, cGMPs, regulatory affairs and world class TQM environment
Statistical analysis and reporting of results in a professional and technically responsible manner are key components of a successful Manager Microbial Applications.
Will need to have a unique combination of technical skills, administrative management skills, teamwork orientation and the personal skills to effectively service and communicate with all stakeholders interacting with the technical department.
Personal skills and the confidence to lead direct and motivate the technical staff as a strong functional leader, while also exhibiting the steady reliability and teamwork attitude needed to effectively interface with the other functional areas of the company on a matrix basis.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, both oral and written.
Willing to travel <15% in support of sales and product development or production.
Relocation support will be considered for the right candidate.
