The Account Director is responsible for the relationship between the agency and clients and will look after client needs through direct contact, liaison, and the marshaling of agency resources. The Account Director will be the key, day-to-day agency representative to the client and will maintain a highly responsive service orientation in all transactions. They must be knowledgeable in both the client’s business, strategy and the agency business and will review all strategic and media decisions formulated by the various operating departments before they are delivered to the client. The Account Director will also be the client’s primary advisor, must be able to think strategically, but be willing and able to roll up their sleeves to help implement marketing and PR programs for agency clients. We are looking for a strategic thinker who can help inspire clients to harness the power of marketing to drive their business forward.

The Account Director will play a critical role in determining the future and long-term success of accounts and is responsible for all client activity oversight. They must have a demonstrated track record of developing and executing successful public relations, marketing and communications strategies and provide strategic counsel to clients. The Account Director manages client revenue and these revenues are balanced against responsibility in terms of complexity, scope, and business development.Experience in government accounts and clients A MUST.

Key Responsibilities

Account Service

  • Direct effectively client team(s) and client programs, staying abreast of any issues or opportunities at all times
  • Be a strong strategic advisor to the client
  • Demonstrate an excellent understanding of the client’s business, show a high level of integrity in counseling and consulting and develop relationships with all critical decision makers at client companies
  • Drive new business and marketing including identifying and acting on opportunities, developing credentials and effectively creating and presenting creative winning proposals
  • Actively cross-sell existing clients across other capabilities and practices
  • Demonstrate sound financial management, ensuring profitability of programs and projects, minimizing write-offs and over-servicing, aiding collection of receivables and ensuring team billability/revenue targets are met
  • Act as the quality champion in the client team driving the pursuit of excellence and continuously improving the client servicing process
  • Publish summary reports in the client service area for corporate-level reviews
  • Evolve agency/team knowledge of client industry including trends, competitive activities and business innovations with potential impact on account service
  • Behave in a professional and ethical manner, while upholding the values of quality, integrity, respect, entrepreneurial spirit and mutual benefit and complying with all company Policies and Procedures

Media Relations

  • Establish/maintain relationships with media and influencers
  • Provide leadership in account management, media/influencer relations

Functional Leadership & Management

  • Create seamless partnership across all executive team members
  • Partner with innovation leaders to introduce emerging opportunities to existing accounts, new clients and prospects

Brand Leadership & Management

  • Ability to work with other integrated agencies (advertising, media, digital, experiential, etc.)
  • Partner with innovation leaders to introduce immerging opportunities to existing accounts, new clients and prospects
  • Develop quality standards and ensure client satisfaction

Content Development

  • Maintain strategic and creative oversight on press and promotional materials (e.g., press releases, by-lined articles, scripts, talking points, etc.)
  • Develop strong strategic client plans

Agency Leadership

  • Recommend new systems to improve agency management and or client services
  • Continually seek to evolve knowledge and specialty, client’s business and competitors, vertical industry
  • Command attention and respect via strategic thinking and professional comportment in all agency, industry and client settings

Performance Management & Talent Development

  • Assure the account service staff is trained in and follows the agency’s standard operating procedures, and quality standards established for client services.
  • Ensure quality of work from team in order to meet/exceed client expectations
  • Develop direct reports through effective delegation, coaching and feedback and carry out performance appraisals which contain realistic development plans
  • Conduct periodic account performance reviews, as well as strategic business quality reviews in conjunction with the corporate media and creative directors.

Business Development

  • Identify trendsetter ideas by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements; tracking individual contributors and their accomplishments
  • Propose potential business deals by contacting potential partners; discovering and exploring opportunities
  • Screen potential business deals by analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, potential, and financials; evaluating options; resolving internal priorities; recommending equity investments
  • Develop negotiating strategies and positions by studying integration of new venture with company strategies and operations; examining risks and potentials; estimating partners' needs and goals
  • Close new business deals by coordinating requirements; developing and negotiating contracts; integrating contract requirements with business operations
  • Protect organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
  • Enhance organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
  • Proactively identify business growth opportunities and methods (organic and prospective)
  • Identify new platforms, tools, partnerships


  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing/Communications; advance degree preferred
  • Experience in multicultural and AA markets
  • Strong planning skills and strategic thinking
  • Strong project management skills
  • Profit & Loss (P&L) experience
  • Strong communication skill, copy writing and presentation skill
  • Proven track record in prioritizing a heavy workload and multi-tasking
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented; able to meet deadlines with accuracy and diplomacy
  • 9-12 years of PR, Advertising and Communications experience; 5+ years of supervisory experience
  • Experience in government accounts and clients A MUST
